Archery Expansion

This modification introduces to Minecraft a new ranged weapon system similar to the common tool classification. Thanks to this, bows and arrows of various quality levels appear in the game.
Tier Categories
Ranged weapons are now represented by five main varieties:
- Wooden bows and flint arrows
- Golden bows with gold-coated arrows
- Iron bows with steel arrows
- Diamond bows and diamond-tipped arrows
- Netherite bows and arrows made of netherite
The game also features cursed bows used by skeletons, with significantly inferior characteristics compared to standard models. Note that the basic bow automatically transforms into the cursed version when adding the modification to an existing world. Flint arrows remain the standard arrows from the base game.
Categories differ in practical properties: simple bows feature less durability, limited range and damage, but allow for faster drawing and movement with a charged weapon. In contrast, advanced models demonstrate high durability, increased effective range and damage dealt at the cost of longer aiming preparation and slower movement while drawing.
Quick Reload Mechanics
The modification introduces an original mechanic called "Quick Reload" - immediately after firing an arrow, the effect is applied to the shooter, increasing taken damage from enemy arrows for the duration of the effect. This property also applies to skeletons, making the tactic of quick elimination through accurate shooting significantly more effective compared to slow approach under shield cover.
Bow Breaking
Bows can instantly lose all durability when successfully hit by an axe with critical damage. The probability of such destruction decreases with higher quality bows, and the reduction in durability loss depends on the weapon level and Unbreaking enchantment.
Enchantments
The modification expands the list of available enchantments:
- Unbreaking - provides additional resistance to destruction by 10% per level
- Power - functions exclusively for cursed bows
- Scouting (for boots) - applies speed effect while drawing the bowstring (3 levels, semi-rare)
- Babyface (for boots) - hitting a target temporarily increases movement speed (2 levels, semi-rare)
- Follow-Through (for chestplates) - hitting a target temporarily boosts melee attack (2 levels, rare)
- Grit (for chestplates) - activates damage resistance during drawing (2 levels, rare)
- Shattering (for bows) - projectiles have a chance to additionally damage enemy armor durability by 5% (5 levels, common)
- Headshot (for bows) - increases damage by 2+ per level (5 levels, incompatible with Power) - entities targetable for headshots can be added to the headshot_whitelist tag through a datapack
- Curse of Fragility - armor becomes more vulnerable to taking 2+ extra damage from arrows per level (5 levels)
- Curse of Pincushioning - permanent Quickdraw Effect while wearing armor (5 layers)
- Trajectory - visual display of arrow trajectory (single enchantment level)
Bow Loading Interface
Bows now display a compact loading bar beneath the crosshair while charging, similar to melee attack animations.
Equipment Restoration
All Archery Expansion bows can be repaired in anvils using materials corresponding to their tier.
Loot Distribution
Iron, diamond, gold and netherite arrows can be discovered in Pillager Outposts and Woodland Mansions, Ancient Cities and End Cities, Bastions and Treasure Bastions respectively.
Configuration Capabilities
Individual bow statistics can be adjusted using datapack mechanisms!
Cross-Mod Compatibility
Statistics of bows from other modifications can also be modified via datapack configuration. Additional mods' arrows can display proper textures with Archery Expansion bow mechanics - though this requires implementation by those modification developers. The modification includes a reference example demonstrating these features using The Legend of Steve mod by DeadlyDiamond98.
Future updates may bring additional functionality depending on community feedback popularity.
