Axolootl: Resourceful Axolotls
Axolotls are known for swimming, eating, and playing dead. But now everything has changed! The Axolootl mod allows you to build aquariums, breed axolotls, and obtain valuable resources!
Getting Started
To begin your axolotl breeding adventure, you'll need to:
- Build an aquarium following all guidelines
- Upgrade it with special modules

- Engage in breeding these creatures
- Reap the rewards of your efforts!

Aquarium Basics
First, select a suitable location for your future aquarium. Larger tanks can accommodate more axolotls. Minimum size is 3×3×3 blocks, maximum is 64×64×64.
Important: large aquariums may cause significant lag. The configuration file contains settings to reduce performance impact.
Now gather the necessary building blocks. External walls must consist of:
- Any type of aquarium floor
- Aquarium roof
- Aquarium glass
- Upgrades (more on these later)

Ensure the interior space forms a completely enclosed rectangle or cube - no gaps in the walls allowed!

After completing construction, replace one wall block with a Controller. Open its interface and click "Activate." If everything is correct, the system will recognize the aquarium and start its operation.

Controller
The aquarium controller serves as the "brain" of the entire system. It monitors all axolotls and upgrades within one convenient interface.

Aquarium Floor
Hold sand or gravel in your hand and click on the aquarium floor to decorate it. Craft recipes are also available for sand and gravel variants.

Aquarium Upgrades
A basic aquarium performs standard functions, but modules expand its capabilities!
Bubbler
This is the first and most important mandatory upgrade. Installed inside the aquarium to create a healthy habitat. Compatible with Forge Energy.

Output Block
The second mandatory upgrade, becomes part of the external wall, with an enlarged version for greater storage capacity.

Axolotl Interface
Placed in the aquarium wall, allowing you to add and remove axolotls without entering the water. Essential equipment for any serious breeder.

Axolotl Inspector
Mounts on the external wall and displays complete information about axolotl varieties, their characteristics, lineage, diet, and generated resources.

Water Interface
Greatly simplifies filling large reservoirs with water - just use a bucket or fluid pump with modded pipe connections. Controlled via redstone signal.

Autofeeder
Interior module for automatic axolotl feeding. Well-nourished pets boost overall aquarium efficiency.

Breeder
Positioned inside the tank and handles automatic axolotl breeding. Manual cross-breeding is not possible, making this module critically important!

Monsterium
An addition to the Breeder that enables offspring that produce mob resources. Must be used together with the Breeder.

Nursery
Speed booster for the Breeder and Monsterium, installed directly inside the aquarium.

Energy Interface
Required when using modules that consume Forge Energy. Connects to any power source for distribution throughout the system.

Airlock
Safe access into the aquarium without risk of damage or axolotl escape. Highly recommended for installation.

Decorations
Certain decorative elements can accelerate system performance - monitor the list in the Controller. Caring for your pets' comfort yields benefits!

Creating Axolotls
Only one type can be crafted - the Basic Axolotl.

Breeding
With two or more Basic Axolotls, you can begin breeding. Place appropriate food in the Breeder (most fish work for basic types).

The Monsterium is necessary for obtaining breeds that generate mob drops - such as Creeper, Spider, or Zombie Axolotls.
Eventually mature specimens will consume the provided food and produce an entirely new axolotl variety! Different parent combinations yield unique offspring with various resource types.
Customization
New axolotl types can be added via datapacks - literally any variety you can imagine!
Modpack creators can configure decoration bonuses for any blocks using datapacks.
Blocks suitable for aquarium construction are defined by the axolootl:aquarium tag.
