Bastion Raid - Defending Bastions from Wither Skeleton Invasions

This datapack introduces large-scale wither skeleton raids in bastions, similar to illager raids in villages. Compatible with Minecraft versions from 1.16.2 to 1.21.1.

Enemy Types

Captain Wither Skeleton

• Health: 50 points (25 hearts)
• Armor: Captain's Golden Helmet (unbreakable)
• Weapon: Golden Axe
• Kill Reward: Wither Omen effect (black smoke particles)
• Spawn Locations: Nether Fortresses, raids

Raider Wither Skeleton

• Health: 24 points (12 hearts)
• Armor and Weapons: Random
• Features in deadly mode:
  • Iron and diamond armor with enchantments
  • Iron and diamond weapons with enchantments
  • Significantly increased speed
• Spawn Locations: Raids

Bastion Golem (disabled by default)

• Health: 75 points (37.5 hearts)
• Behavior: Neutral
• Spawn Locations: Bastions (created by piglins for defense)

Raid Mechanics

Piglin brute behavior has been changed to neutral - they only attack players without golden armor. Bastions no longer contain lava, making movement easier for both players and wither skeletons. Mob spawners have been replaced with charged respawn anchors.

The raid begins when a player with the Wither Omen effect enters a bastion. Piglins and piglin brutes do not attack players in golden armor even if accidentally hit. Each wave is led by a captain wither skeleton.

At the start of each wave, raiders spawn 4-10 blocks from the bastion and head towards the piglins. The number of waves depends on difficulty:

• Easy: 6 waves
• Normal: 7 waves
• Hard: 8 waves

Instead of a bell for enemy detection, a glowing system is used: wither skeletons glow red for 5 seconds after spawning and periodically during the raid. Piglins also glow, especially when the raid bar is recharging or when in danger.

Some piglins activate charged respawn anchors to help players. The "Allies Remaining" counter displays the number of surviving piglins above the hotbar.

Achievements

• Voluntary Exile: Kill a captain wither skeleton. You might want to avoid bastions temporarily.
• Hero of the Bastion: Successfully defend a bastion from a raid.
• Unexpected Allies: Bastion savior, now guarded by grateful piglins.
• Mob Discovered: Bastion Golem: Golem with 75 health points created by piglins to defend against hostile mobs and players. Made of dense gold blocks and doesn't crack like iron golems.

Note: The new "Voluntary Exile" achievement does not replace the original achievement for killing an illager captain - they have different IDs.

Installation

Open your .minecraft folder. Place the datapack in the saves/world_name/datapacks directory.
