Bear Minimum

Mod Overview

Bear Minimum is a compact addon entirely dedicated to adding bears to the Minecraft world. Currently, the mod includes two new bear species - black bears and brown bears, and also enhances the standard polar bears to better match their fearsome real-life reputation. These animals spawn in various forest and mountain biomes. Relatively calm black bears inhabit temperate environments, while more aggressive brown bears prefer harsh landscapes.

Black Bears

Black bears are the smallest of those added in the mod. They are quite peaceful and attack players only for self-defense or protection of their offspring. Although bear cubs look cute, keep a safe distance - an angry parent might be nearby. Black bears can be fed various sweet foods such as honeycombs, apples, and berries. Player approach scares them away, and loud sounds like goat horns make them run even further!

If black bears are hungry, they may try to eat nearby crops. Be sure to install fences to scare them off, otherwise you risk finding part of your harvest mysteriously disappeared. Black bears also feed on arthropods (insects) and rabbits (if they can catch them!).

Brown Bears

Brown bears are less friendly than black ones, but otherwise their behavior is similar. The main difference is that brown bears attack players invading their personal space! Be careful not to stumble upon a bear while walking through the forest. Fortunately, they are also timid and try to avoid players - unless they are carrying their favorite treats: berries, bread, or salmon.

Hungry brown bears may raid crops or hunt. Their prey includes arthropods, salmon, and pigs.

Polar Bears

In standard Minecraft, polar bears are quite passive. They mostly stand still and do nothing. Therefore, Bear Minimum rebalances them to better match their intimidating real-life reputation. Polar bears receive a significant increase in health and damage, as well as increased knockback resistance to match their noticeably enlarged size. Be careful when exploring tundras - invading a polar bear's habitat may result in encountering a mighty opponent!

Items

Consistent with its minimalist mod concept, Bear Minimum adds few items. Bear meat is obtained by killing polar, brown, and black bears. Cooked bear meat, as you might guess, is obtained by cooking raw bear meat. Due to its high fat content, it is slightly less filling but more nutritious than steak.

Bear Minimum also adds bear spawn eggs for creative mode players. As usual, they are unavailable in survival mode.

Please use this mod in modpacks! I prefer modpacks to be created through CurseForge or Modrinth so I can track this mod's popularity, but it's not critical. Let me know if you want me to port it to another version or add compatibility with other mods! If you have ideas that could improve this mod, leave a comment! I'll be glad to hear your feedback.

This mod will also be available on CurseForge after approval. I don't plan to distribute it through other platforms, so I cannot guarantee its safety or accuracy if you get it from another source.
