Bed of Nails
This modification is under development. Temperature calculation algorithms will be changed.
Many players appreciate the Tough as Nails mod for its realistic survival system with temperature and thirst mechanics. However, some dislike how temperature indicators are calculated - they consider the system too simplified and rapidly changing. Bed of Nails is designed for those who want a more complex and realistic gaming experience within Tough as Nails.
This addon completely reworks the temperature mechanics, making its changes more smooth and gradual. Additional settings and more complex algorithms are planned for the future.
Main Features
- Player temperature gradually approaches target values. This means that near heat or cold sources (such as campfires), your temperature stabilizes at a certain level rather than continuously rising or falling endlessly.
- Temperature changes occur significantly slower than in the original mod. The speed of these changes continues to be adjusted.
- Armor effectively protects against extreme temperatures but doesn't cause overheating in moderate conditions.
- Metal armor has negative insulation - in cold biomes it enhances cooling, while in hot biomes it promotes overheating.
- Temperature conditions in different biomes can be very extreme, forcing players to actively maintain comfortable temperature rather than relying solely on armor.
Armor Enhancement
Armor can be reinforced with special linings. To do this, combine regular armor with lining material (wool, leather, or leaves) in a crafting table. You cannot add lining to already reinforced armor or combine two regular armors.
Reinforced armor inherits 90% of the lining's characteristics and 10% of the main armor's properties. This ratio can be changed in the settings.
Factors Affecting Temperature
- Temperature conditions of surrounding biomes
- Time of day
- Being in shade
- Worn armor with its thermal and insulation properties
- Weather conditions
- Being in or under water
- Blocks in immediate proximity

The developer is actively collecting feedback on the temperature system's performance for further mod improvements.
