Drastically transforms the coal mining and usage system in Minecraft by adding a whole five new types of fuels inspired by real-life mineral sciences.

What's New in the Game?

The Better Coal mod was initially developed as a realistic coal processing system but evolved into a comprehensive reorganization of the entire coal framework. Instead of a single standard coal, players now gain access to an evolving chain of fuel types with unique characteristics.

Coal Types and Their Features

Peat

• Crafted from any combination of four plant elements: various apple types, cacti, dead bushes, leaves, mushrooms, flowers, pumpkins, sugar cane, saplings, seeds, and wheat
• Each ingredient set produces 2 peat units
• Used for creating lignite (9 peat = 1 lignite), mossy cobblestone (4 peat + 1 cobblestone), and peat blocks
• Peat smelts 4 items, peat block smelts 16 objects
• One peat unit can create 12 torches with lighting of 0.5776F
• Does not generate in the world, requires crafting

Lignite

• Found at depths from 0 to 128 blocks, 1 to 8 per vein, or created from 9 peat
• Drops 1-4 units from ore
• Smelts 6 items, lignite block smelts 24
• Crafts 10 torches with lighting of 0.6675F
• Four peat blocks convert into one lignite block

Normal Coal

• Mined at layers 0 to 96 blocks or created from combination of 2 lignite and 7 peat
• Drops 1-4 pieces from ore
• Smelts 8 items, coal block smelts 32
• One regular coal produces 8 torches with brightness of 0.7575F
• Four lignite blocks transform into one coal block

Bituminous Coal

• Found at depths 0-64 blocks or synthesized from 3 regular coals and 6 peat
• Drops 1-4 units per partial ore vein
• Smelts 10 items, compressed block processes 40 positions
• Creates 6 torches with light index of 0.8475F
• Four coal blocks stack into one bituminous block

Anthracite

• Rare coal type, appears underground at depths up to 32 blocks or created from 4 bituminous and 5 peat
• Mining rock destruction yields 1,1-4 samples
• Processes 12 objects, anthracite compressed cube smelts 48 items
• Converts into 4 torchcraftable torches with comfortable light of 0.9375F
• Completes the cycle: four bituminous blocks power creation of one anthracite block
• Unique use : ritual diamond creation from specially-reduced anthracite block stack involving process 3x3 compilation
