Hemp Farming
Hemp is a two-block tall crop that can be obtained from hemp seeds by breaking tall grass. Hemp products are essential for progressing in the mod.
Rotational Force
The main power system of the mod creates unique challenges in designing compact layouts to power all machines. The network consists of axles and gearboxes. Gearboxes have only one input but can be split into multiple outputs. The entire network requires only one generator.
New Crafting Machines
Better Than Wolves adds many new machines, each presenting unique automation challenges. Some require fire, rotational force, and/or other machines to function properly. The initial machines are simple and provide an easy introduction to the mod, with each subsequent machine becoming progressively more complex.
New Purpose for Dogs
Dogs occasionally produce dung when fed. Dung is important for creating tanned leather. It's important not to put dung in the same cauldron as food, otherwise the food will turn into foul food.
Differences from the Original Version
The original version 2.94 had some unfinished features that have been addressed in this version.
Strict Feeding Requirements for Dogs
Dogs only produce dung after being fed. This was implemented both to add a resource challenge to dung production and to allow people to keep dogs as pets without them littering their home.
Crucibles Can Use Double Stoked Fire
Double stoked fire had no use in the original version. If you want to increase the smelting rate, you can raise the crucible by one block. This used to be a requirement but has been made optional again for greater parity with the original version.
Soul Filtering in Hoppers
Concentrated hellfire is now created by filling an active hopper with ground netherrack. The hopper requires a soul filter that loses durability with each use. When the filter is completely depleted, the hopper explodes and spawns a ghast, just like the original functionality. Bellows can be used next to the hopper to keep the soul filter clean.
Installation
It is recommended to use Prism Launcher to install this mod. All dependencies are also available on Modrinth. It's important to use Java 17 to run the mod. A Babric instance is required to install the mod.
Project Relationship with Original Version
FlowerChild is the original creator of Better Than Wolves, including version 2.94. Much of the code has been adapted for Station API or replaced. Despite significant modifications, this mod still contains much of the original code and all original assets. The license is the same as the original mod's license.
