Transform decorative armor trims into functional enhancements

The BetterTrims mod fundamentally changes the purpose of decorative armor trims, giving each material unique bonuses when equipped.

Materials with special properties

Different trim materials provide armor with additional characteristics. Note that not all materials listed below are available for trimming in the base game - some will require using a datapack or mod, such as AllTheTrims.

Vanilla materials:

• Amethyst: Increases duration of positive effects and reduces negative effect duration

• Chorus Fruit: Increases dodge chance from attacks

• Coal: Automatically smelts ores in inventory when taking fire damage

• Copper: Protects from lightning damage and creates electric field in water

• Diamond: Speeds up resource gathering and increases chance of valuable item drops

• Dragon's Breath: Expands radius of sharing your potion effects with other entities

• Echo Shard: Teleports you back in time upon death, restoring previous state

• Emerald: Reduces trading costs with villagers

• Enchanted Golden Apple: Significantly increases max health, resistance and regeneration speed

• Ender Pearl: Increases projectile dodge chance and adds water vulnerability

• Fire Charge: Allows setting enemies on fire when attacking and creates fiery thorns

• Glowstone: Adds glow effect and nether blessing

• Gold: Provides sun's blessing and makes player neutral to piglins

• Iron: Attracts items to player

• Lapis: Adds enchantment reroll button in enchanting table

• Leather: Reduces detectability by mobs and allows walking on powdered snow

• Nether Brick: Increases fire resistance and adds chance to behead enemies

• Netherite: Significantly boosts fire protection and general resistance, prevents item burning

• Prismarine: Increases swimming speed, adds thorns, and extends air supply

• Quartz: Increases experience gained

• Redstone: Increases movement speed and step height

• Slime: Reduces knockback resistance and adds bounce when landing

Additional materials:

• Steel, Adamantite, Durasteel: Increase item durability
• Mythril, Carmot, Platinum: Improve various characteristics and add special abilities
• Celestium, Palladium, Runite: Increase speed and effectiveness in certain conditions

Attribute system

BetterTrims introduces many new parameters that control how trimmed armor interacts with the game world:

• Attack and projectile deflect chance - ability to avoid damage
• Bouncy - prevents fall damage upon landing
• Celestial blessings - only work in appropriate dimensions or times of day
• Electrifying and fiery effects - damage surrounding entities
• Item magnet - attracts dropped resources
• Regeneration and restoration - automatically restore health and equipment

Advancements

The mod adds an achievement system that encourages using different trim materials:

• "Miss Me" - dodge an incoming attack
• "Pig on a Spike" - behead a piglin
• "Boing!" - avoid fall damage by bouncing
• "Stay Out of my Head" - wear iron trim on iron helmet
• "Shocking" - kill a mob with electric field

Configuration

Configuration is provided through Configurable mod with in-game editing support via YACL. Most effects and attributes can be customized to personal preferences.

This mod transforms armor trims from simply decorative elements into strategically important enhancements that add depth to gameplay and new tactical opportunities.
