Building Shift

Building Shift is a client-side mod for Minecraft on the Fabric platform that allows you to disable interaction with functional blocks and place blocks next to them without needing to hold the Shift key!

To enable or disable the function, use the /buildingshift toggle command or the assigned hotkey (default is G).

Server-Side Features

The mod can be installed on the server for enhanced functionality. It works when installed either on the server or the client, but the best experience is achieved when installed on both sides.

A player with the mod installed on the client can join servers without the mod and use it as client-side only. In this case, minor bugs may occur:

  • The side of a placed orientation-dependent block may not depend on the side of the adjacent block but on the player's facing direction in the world.

A player without the mod can join a server with the mod installed and use its functionality via the command:

/buildingshift (toggle|on|off)

In this case, other bugs related to missing client-side code may occur:

  • No sound after placing the block
  • Inability to spam blocks in a row

The best experience is achieved when a player with the mod installed on the client plays on a server with the mod installed. This improves communication between the client and server sides:

  • The player sees an indicator next to the crosshair
  • The player does not encounter bugs related to the mod being installed on only one side

Playing in singleplayer is similar to playing with the mod installed on both sides, but on an integrated server.

When the function is enabled, a special indicator is displayed next to the crosshair.
