Cart Livery

Tired of standard gray minecarts in Minecraft? Want your vehicles to stand out from the crowd or match your brand new steam locomotive? Cart Livery offers a solution — now you can paint your minecarts in all 16 wool colors and apply colorful stickers to them!

How to Use

Create a livery cutting tool on a regular 3x3 crafting table:

Right-click the tool to open the interface where you can:

  • Preview the sticker appearance in the top left corner
  • Change primary and secondary colors using dyes
  • Select sticker type using arrow buttons
  • Place paper in the left slot to get a white sticker

To color the sticker, place it in the center of a 3x3 crafting table, primary dye on top, secondary dye on bottom:

Applying the sticker: Shift + right-click on the minecart. If the minecart already has a sticker, it will be removed and returned to your inventory. Shift + right-click with the livery cutting tool also removes the sticker.

Railcraft Compatibility

With Railcraft installed and the configuration option enabled, you can apply Railcraft emblems to minecarts. Shift + right-click with an emblem on the minecart applies it, and the livery cutting tool removes it.

Automation

For automation, create a livery cutting press:

Place paper in the left slot and a finished sticker in the middle as a template. The press will create a white sticker with the same pattern. By default, the press requires RF (redstone flux) to function, but this can be disabled in settings.

Stickers and Extensibility

Cart Livery is designed with extensibility in mind. The base version includes several stickers, but you can easily add new ones through resource packs. Other mods can also define their own sticker sets.

Available stickers for crafting are determined by the client — the sum of all active resource packs. In multiplayer, other players without the specific resource pack won't see the sticker but can still color and apply them normally.

Creating a Resource Pack

Creating your own sticker set is quite simple. You'll need:

  1. A pack.mcmeta file with additional metadata for the list of added stickers
  2. One or more language files in /assets/cartlivery/lang to define sticker names
  3. The textures themselves in /assets/cartlivery/textures/livery (PNG format)

The mod draws a textured frame around the minecart with a mostly transparent texture. You can start with the test.png texture from the provided pack.

Compatibility and Support

The mod works both with and without Railcraft (tested with RC 9.5.0.1 for MC 1.7.10 and RC 8.3.2.0 for MC 1.6.4). Also compatible with Extra Carts and Steve's Carts.

Built-in support for Waila versions 1.5.0 and higher shows the sticker name on the minecart, resource pack, colors, and emblem. These options can be turned on and off separately.

Sticker coloring recipes currently don't appear in NEI.
