Cavernous - Transforming Minecraft's Underground World

Cavernous is a datapack that stays true to vanilla Minecraft's spirit while completely revolutionizing the game's underground. You'll discover over 14 entirely new cave biomes, unique structures, interesting mechanics, and special achievements. From variations of classic caves to completely unusual underground landscapes - in Cavernous you'll always find something new to explore.

Diversity of Cave Biomes

Volcanic Caves - Dangerous underground realms filled with lava, where valuable rewards coexist with serious risks. Here you'll find unique geyser blocks that can launch players high into the air.

Splattered Caves - Standard caves with more frequent placement of andesite, diorite, and granite.

Marshy Caves - Located beneath swamp biomes, these caves feature muddy terrain and enormous hanging roots from surface trees.

Marble Caves - Classic caves with walls made of diorite and calcite.

Lush Dripstone Caves - A harmonious blend of two vanilla cave biomes.

Tropical Caves - Beneath jungles lie ancient temples and lush vegetation, but be cautious - poisonous secrets lurk here.

Icy Caves - Dangerous underground realms beneath mountains and cold biomes with slippery floors and powder snow. Additional ores can be spotted through ice layers. Strays inhabit these areas.

Fungal Caves - Dense vegetative environment with giant mushrooms and ancient plants, illuminated by shroomlight glow.

Glowshroom Caves - Another mushroom biome with enhanced bioluminescence.

Crystal Caves - Massive geodes with amethyst crystals illuminating the walls of underground complexes.

Arid & Desert Caves - Sandy underground realms beneath dry biomes with huge dead bushes, cacti, and new structures. Husks spawn here and even drop sand.

Painted Caves - A rare variant of desert caves with additional color accents.

Caldera Caves - Scorchingly hot biome with water pools and geyser blocks.

Unique Structures

Dungeons - Classic dungeons have been replaced by new complex structures with various design variants.

Cave Villages - New village type that generates in stone caves.

Lush Cave Villages - A variant of cave villages for heavily vegetated caves.

Husk Spawner - New dungeon variant for desert cave biomes.

Overgrown Temple - Ancient temple in tropical caves containing valuable loot and numerous secrets.

Sandstone Temple - Dangerous trap-filled temple in desert caves.

Abandoned Thermal Plant - Deep within volcanic caves, solve puzzles and cool the thermal reactor to access new treasures.

Additional Features

Geyser Block - Unique block that launches players when stepped on. Ice beneath the block prevents activation. When powered with redstone, it erupts, opening integration possibilities.

New Items - Will be added in the 1.0 release on July 14th.

New Mob Variants - Will appear in the 1.0 release on July 14th.

Creepers - Now deal less environmental damage but leave behind a lingering poison cloud.

Achievements - Special achievements related to caves and Cavernous features.

Important Geyser Information

When using Cavernous on a server, command blocks must be enabled in the server.properties file by setting the "enable-command-block" parameter to true. This is only required for geyser generation and doesn't provide command block access.

Using datapacks that unlock all recipes is not recommended as they may disrupt some Cavernous functions.

Updating from Previous Versions

To update from versions released before Minecraft 1.20, you must remove the old Cavernous datapack from your world's datapack folder, then add the new datapack and the "CavernousCompatibility.zip" file from the same folder. This procedure is only required once - the compatibility pack will continue working with subsequent updates.
