Cavernous Mod: Explore a Completely New Underground
Cavernous is a vanilla-style datapack (now packaged as a mod) that adds over 14 new cave biomes, unique structures, game mechanics and achievements. From variations of standard caves to completely unusual underground areas - this addon will always give you something new to explore.
Cave Biomes
Volcanic Caves - lava-filled catacombs that hide valuable rewards but pose enormous dangers. Also contains a special block - geyser, which launches the player high into the air.
Splattered Caves - standard underground areas with increased frequency of andesite, diorite and granite.
Marshy Caves - located under swamp biomes, these caves feature muddy terrain and massive tree roots hanging from the ceiling.
Marble Caves - similar to regular caves but with diorite and calcite walls.
Lush Dripstone Caves - combination of two standard vanilla biomes.
Tropical Caves - under jungles, new caves generate with ancient temples and lush vegetation. Be careful - poisonous secrets are hidden here.
Icy Caves - located under mountains and cold biomes, these underground areas are extremely dangerous due to slippery floors and powder snow. Additional ores and cave systems can be discovered by breaking through ice layers. Strays also spawn here.
Fungal Caves - dense plant world with huge mushrooms and ancient plants. Explore these underground areas illuminated by the light of shroomlights and navigate through dense underground jungles.
Glowshroom Caves - another mushroom biome with increased bioluminescence.
Crystal Caves - huge geodes fill these underground complexes with colorful amethyst crystals that illuminate the walls.
Arid & Desert Caves - sandy underground beneath dry biomes like badlands, deserts and savannahs. Discover giant dead bushes and cacti, as well as various structures. Husks spawn here and can drop sand.
Painted Caves - rare variant of desert caves with additional colors.
Caldera Caves - scorchingly hot biome with water pools and new special geyser blocks.
Structures
Dungeons - vanilla dungeons have been replaced by new complex systems with numerous variations.
Cave Villages - new village type appearing in stone caves.
Lush Cave Villages - another cave village variant found in heavily vegetated underground areas.
Husk Spawner - new dungeon in desert caves.
Overgrown Temple - ancient temple in tropical caves with valuable items and hidden secrets.
Sandstone Temple - dangerous trap-filled temple in desert caves.
Abandoned Thermal Plant - deep in volcanic caves, solve puzzles and cool down the thermal reactor to gain access to new treasure.
Additional Features
Geyser Block - special block that launches the player high into the air when stepped on. To disable step activation or random triggering, place any ice underneath it. When powered with redstone it explodes, opening numerous unique applications.
New Items - will be added in version 1.0 on July 14.
New Mob Variants - will also appear in version 1.0 on July 14.
Creepers - now deal slightly less environmental damage but leave behind poison clouds.
Achievements - added special achievements related to underground exploration and new caves.
Important Information About Geysers
When using Cavernous on a server, you need to enable command blocks. This is only required for geyser generation and doesn't give players access to command blocks. Change the "enable-command-block" parameter to true in the server.properties file.
Also, avoid using other datapacks that unlock all recipes as they break some features.
Updating Old Versions
To upgrade from versions released before Minecraft 1.20, you need to remove the old Cavernous datapack from your world's datapack folder, then place the new datapack and additionally move the "CavernousCompatibility.zip" file from the same folder to the datapack folder. This procedure only needs to be done once - in future updates the compatibility pack will continue to work.
