Chat Filtering

Chat Filtering is a Minecraft modification that provides server owners with tools for chat control. The mod blocks players from using unwanted words and expressions.

Configuration

After mod installation, a configuration file is created in the config/Chat Filter/ folder named chat-filter.toml, containing all available settings parameters.

How Filtering Works

The system includes three types of filters:

  • Chat messages
  • Executed commands (including /say, /me, /tell, /msg)
  • Item renaming on anvils

When prohibited words are detected in the first two cases, the message is not sent and the command is not executed - the player receives a notification. If an item is renamed using inappropriate names, it automatically gets labeled "Inappropiate Name".

Punishment System

When the corresponding option is enabled in configuration, players receive warnings. After exceeding the set warning limit, one of three punishments is applied:

  • Temporary mute for a specified duration
  • Kick from the server
  • Ban

The filter recognizes attempts to bypass censorship using spaces and punctuation within words but doesn't detect letter replacements with numbers (for example, "h3llo" instead of "hello"). Therefore, administrators are recommended to manually add such variations to the blacklist.
