Combat Next: The Future of Vanilla Combat
Major Gameplay Changes
This modification implements all the latest updates from the official combat system tests by Minecraft developers, allowing you to experience them in modern game versions alongside other mods.
Revamped Melee Combat System
- Players now deal increased base melee damage but have reduced attack range
- All standard weapon types received improved attack speed, balanced damage, and some types - increased attack range
- The updated attack mechanics strictly enforce cooldown time and reward patient fighters with additional attack range
Enhanced Defensive Capabilities
- Shields have become less overpowered, and various bugs related to their usage have been fixed
- Added the Cleaving enchantment, which increases axe damage and extends enemy shield blocking time
Modernized Ranged Weapons
- Bows gained increased accuracy but penalize the player for holding the drawn bow for too long
- Projectiles can now be stacked in larger quantities: snowballs up to 64, potions up to 16 units
Other Significant Improvements
- The Impaling enchantment now deals increased damage to mobs in water or rain
- Tridents can be shot from dispensers, and with the Loyalty enchantment, they return from the void
- The hunger system now allows health regeneration up to level 7 (3.5 hearts) with double the speed and half the hunger consumption
Complete Customizability
The main advantage is that absolutely all changes made by the mod can be finely tuned to your preferences. The modification is designed with maximum compatibility with other addons in mind. Configuration files contain detailed settings allowing changes to be applied to modded weapons and shields.
Configuration Features
The mod primarily uses server configurations that are created for each world separately. To avoid the need to create new settings for each new world, you can copy an existing configuration to the defaultconfigs folder.
