Custom Vanilla Trees from Saplings
Want to diversify your Minecraft world by replacing standard trees with unique variants featuring custom designs? This datapack offers this possibility while maintaining a harmonious appearance true to the vanilla style.
Key features:
Every planted sapling grows into a special tree with various forms and rotations for each type. The growing process occurs naturally—both through regular planting and random world updates. The system supports both single saplings and 2×2 group planting.
In compatible biomes with flowers nearby, beehives will generate on trees, similar to vanilla mechanics. For crafting convenience, a recipe has been added: 4 logs from 3 wood blocks, as most custom trees consist primarily of wood.
Important details:
- When placing a sapling, bone meal particles will appear at its base, indicating conversion to the custom version
- To grow standard trees, hold Shift while planting (this behavior can be changed via configuration)
- Trees grow vigorously and may replace blocks in their path—recommended to test first in a separate world
- To return to normal growth mechanics, execute the command:
/function custrees_modest:config/
and select the appropriate option
Note: Cherry trees haven't been modified as they already blend well with custom variants. Most tree models are based on a well-known collection and refined by the author, while mushrooms and Nether trees were created from scratch.
Before removing the datapack, ensure all custom saplings are removed from the world to avoid technical artifacts!
