Deeper Dark
This data pack introduces a completely new dimension - the Deeper Dark, a world of caves entirely covered in sculk, filled with immense treasures and deadly dangers. The dimension includes unique items, blocks, game mechanics, enchantments, advancements, structures, and much more.
The Deeper Dark Dimension
The Deeper Dark is a new dimension that can be accessed by standing on reinforced deepslate in the portal structure at the center of an ancient city while holding an echo shard. Appearing particles will indicate the possibility of entry. To return, you need to find another reinforced deepslate and use the enchanted echo shard. Important: if a warden is nearby, it's impossible to leave the dimension until it despawns or moves far enough away.
Biomes
Main Deeper Dark Biome
The primary and most common biome of the dimension, similar to the deep dark in the overworld but with key differences: more sculk, fossils containing diamonds, blue fog, sculk traps, and ancient villages. All ores from the overworld generate here, including emerald ore.
Deeper Dark Caverns
Almost identical to the main biome but represents a huge cave instead of small cavities. The only structures here are ancient fortresses.
Volcanic Caverns
Biome with basalt pillars, lava, magma blocks, gravel, tuff, and ancient debris, resembling the basalt deltas of the Nether. A lava river/ravine is located in the center.
Amethyst Mines
Area covered with amethyst, calcite, and smooth basalt. Calibrated sculk sensors can be found on amethyst blocks, interacting with other sensors and shriekers. Sculk sensor and shrieker structures appear less frequently here. The only structure is the amethyst mineshaft.
Deep Oasis
Calm biome without sculk at the tops of high caves with many plants and giant vines hanging from the ceiling. Sniffers and their plants spawn here in sniffer nests - geode-shaped caves made of moss and coarse dirt. More shriekers are located beneath this biome than in other parts of the dimension.
Ancient Dark
The original homeland of sculk - a huge cavernous biome with thin pillars and ledges, surrounded by an obsidian barrier. The territory is completely transformed into sculk several blocks deep, with bone blocks sticking out of the ground and hanging from the ceiling. At the bottom are lava lakes with soul sand beaches. The biome has red fog and red-tinted water. The sculk here is more advanced and reacts to touch, activating the biome and causing wardens to spawn. Unique sculk blocks have special abilities. Extremely dangerous.
Obsidian Barrier
Wall of obsidian surrounding the Ancient Dark.
Structures
Ancient Villages
Structures similar to ancient cities but smaller, located in the Deeper Dark biome. May contain a portal in the center or just a block of reinforced deepslate.
Ancient Fortresses
Massive castle-like structures in the Deeper Dark caverns with a portal in the center. Have high walls with many internal passages. Loot includes potions, combat equipment, resources like wood and food.
Sculk Traps
"Spawner dungeons" of the Deeper Dark - disks of deepslate brick on four supports with a barrel on top and two sensors and shriekers nearby. Loot: enchanted books, experience bottles, and books with the first four new sculk enchantments.
Amethyst Mineshafts
Structures in the amethyst mines that can be found using a mineshaft locator compass. Consist of a series of wooden mine tunnels connected to a stone central room and a staircase leading to the upper room with a domed ceiling, four side rooms, housing corridors, and a sculk conversion pedestal. Side rooms include a room with blast furnaces and chests, a farm, an animal pen, and a room with an auto respawn anchor and reinforced deepslate. Lots of loot, but be careful: a new mob - the Shockwave - inhabits the mineshafts. One per floor (except the top room), they are very loud, strong, fast, and wander around their floor. When approaching, take cover behind a wall of blocks. Each floor contains an altar fragment - necessary for creating a sculk converter.
Laboratories
Structures in the Ancient Dark that can be found using a laboratory locator compass. Consist of many rooms with various experiments around the perimeter and tunnels inside. Heavily damaged, likely hiding something important.
New Items
Splash Potion of Blindness
Lasts 1 minute. Found in ancient fortress chests or created in a sculk converter.
Activated Sculk Shrieker
Sculk shrieker capable of summoning the warden. Created in a sculk converter.
Sculk Enchantments
Special enchantments with blue text, available only in the Deeper Dark. Some can be obtained in sculk traps or through enchanting in a sculk converter.
Clearsight
Protects against blindness level 1 and reduces darkness fog level 1. Applied to helmets. Available on armor in structures, in sculk traps, or through enchanting.
Sonic Boom
Allows using the warden's sonic attack: crouch while looking down to charge, and release to fire. Only for players. Applied to chestplates.
Safefall
Increases safe fall distance. 3 levels. Applied to leggings.
Darkspeed
Allows faster movement in complete darkness (light level 0). 3 levels. Applied to boots.
Resonate
Causes attacking mobs to glow and blocks sonic attacks (except warden attacks). Applied to shields.
Shrieker Sense
Highlights sculk shriekers when looking at them (even through walls). Applied to spyglasses. Available only through enchanting.
Laboratory Locator Compass
Points to a laboratory. Found in barrels on lower levels of amethyst mineshafts.
Amethyst Mineshaft Locator Compass
Points to an amethyst mineshaft. Found in ancient fortress chests.
Ancient Fortress Locator Compass
Points to an ancient fortress. Found in ancient village chests.
Warden Tracker
Shows warden warning level and points to the nearest warden within 64 blocks. Also indicates if the Ancient Dark notices you. Found in amethyst mineshaft supply chests or created through sculk conversion.
Conversion Altar Fragment
One per floor of the amethyst mineshaft. Drop on a sculk catalyst to create a sculk converter. Additional fragments upgrade the converter (maximum 8).
Sculk Conversion
Method of creating items using a sculk catalyst. To create a converter, drop altar fragments on a sculk catalyst. Converters require experience and soul fire. Surround them with soul fire in a circle and kill mobs nearby to gain experience. Each recipe requires specific items, amount of experience, and soul fires. The block displays the amount of experience (green bar) and soul fires (blue fires). Place items in the blue frame at the top of the altar. With the necessary resources, kill mobs nearby to initiate conversion.

Enchantment Addition
The sculk converter can add enchantments to enchantable items. Place an item in the conversion slot. Enchanted books are not considered enchantable, but regular books are. When activated, there will be an attempt to add a compatible enchantment. If nothing happens, it may have selected an already applied or curse enchantment - this doesn't mean the item is fully enchanted. You can activate again to select a different enchantment. Requires 30 experience, the number of soul fires increases enchanting power.
Opening the Portal
Create a portal by placing an enchanted echo shard in an item frame or glow item frame at the bottom of a reinforced deepslate portal in the Deeper Dark, then kill a warden within 64 blocks of the frame. Portals are experimental - if they behave strangely, they can be disabled through a game rule.
