Do a Barrel Roll

Overview

Do a Barrel Roll is a lightweight client-side mod that completely transforms elytra flight, making it more exciting and closer to real aviation. The main idea involves redesigning the control system with complete camera orientation freedom, allowing the player to control pitch, yaw, and roll during flight.

The mod also introduces various visual effects for the camera, including smooth movement and banking during turns, creating the sensation of real flight.

Controls

The default control settings are as follows (they can be changed):

• Mouse movement on X-axis — roll
• Mouse movement on Y-axis — pitch
• Strafe keys (usually A and D) — yaw

Configuration

Mod configuration is available directly in-game through ModMenu and YACL. After installing these mods, you can open the settings screen by finding Do a Barrel Roll in the mod list and pressing the configuration button.

A wide range of parameters is available: mouse behavior settings, elytra activation restrictions, changing values of various modifiers (banking, sensitivity, and others).

Server Features

The mod's visual effects (especially player model rotation) can be synchronized between clients when the mod is installed on the server. Full compatibility with vanilla clients and servers is maintained.

Possible configurations:

• Server with mod, client with mod: visual effects are synchronized
• Server with mod, client without mod: player can join without issues but doesn't see visual effects
• Server without mod, client with mod: player can play but only sees their own visual effects
• Server with mod, multiple clients with and without mod: players with mod see each other's effects, others don't

Important Information

This mod does not change flight physics, so in most cases it shouldn't trigger anti-cheat. However, performing complex maneuvers (such as loop-de-loops) may appear to the server as sudden camera movement and raise suspicions. Use at your own risk.

Versions prior to 2.8.3 may be unsafe for use on multiplayer servers due to weak server-side restrictions.

The mod is based on the Cool Elytra Roll development by Jorbon, specifically its "realistic mode". Port to Forge was done by MehVahdJukaar. The modern Forge version uses Sinytra's multiloader template. Mod icon created by Mizeno.
