Don't Drop XP

Eliminate Experience Loss When Dying

The Don't Drop XP mod solves one of the most annoying problems in Minecraft — losing accumulated experience when your character dies. Unlike the keepInventory rule that preserves all inventory items, this datapack allows players to lose items upon death while keeping all experience levels. No more worrying about losing precious levels needed for enchanting.

Flexible Penalty System

While the core functionality completely prevents experience loss, the mod offers several options for customizing death penalties. Using the command /function dont_drop_xp:_change_xp_penalty_type, you can choose the type of punishment for dying. Administrators can additionally configure the percentage of lost experience through /function dont_drop_xp:_change_xp_percent_lost.

Available penalty options:

  • No Experience Loss: Standard mode — players don't lose any levels
  • Lose X% Experience: Players lose a certain percentage of current experience (from 10% to 90%, default 60%)
  • Mixed Mode with Choice: Combined option where players keep all experience by default but receive a message with the option to voluntarily accept a penalty — perfect for situations where death was fair or unfair

Simple Installation and Removal

Installing the datapack is extremely simple — just place the file in the datapacks folder of your singleplayer or multiplayer world. After loading the world or executing the /reload command, the mod will automatically activate.

For removal, use the command /function #dont_drop_xp:uninstall, which will clear all related counters and objects. After this, the datapack can be safely disabled or deleted.

The mod is based on the Scoreboard to Point Binary Decomposition system by Cloud Wolf.
