🛏️ Eerie Nightmares
This lightweight vanilla-style mod introduces a special game mechanism that activates when you sleep in unsafe locations.
📖 How the Mechanism Works
- Sleeping outdoors carries a high probability of experiencing a nightmare
- Sleeping indoors with low light levels presents a moderate risk of encountering nightmares
- Well-protected rooms with good lighting offer an extremely low chance of experiencing night terrors
Upon waking from a nightmare, you receive the "Insomnia" status effect, preventing you from sleeping again until morning — your character is too anxious to continue resting.
🦮 Key Features
The presence of a pet near your bed significantly reduces nightmare chances both indoors and outdoors (modded pets are also supported!).
Nightmare creatures despawn on their own at dawn, or you can battle your inner demons in combat.
🍀 Benefits of Quality Sleep
When all conditions for protection against night terrors are met (good lighting, pets nearby, secure room), you have a chance to wake from a "Splendid Dream"! This rewards the player with a random beneficial effect lasting a full 5 minutes.
The Splendid Dream also provides immunity to nightmares for the next 5 in-game days. While such dreams occur rarely, their likelihood increases with a pet nearby.
💭 What Makes This Mechanism Special?
In the original game, beds are considered one of the most powerful items — they allow almost complete avoidance of nighttime dangers. This ability to sleep anywhere without consequences creates a gameplay style that many find unconvincing.
Eerie Nightmares revives the old nightmare mechanic from early Minecraft versions and builds upon it, making bed usage more thoughtful and balanced. Go home and sleep peacefully!
⚙️ Configuration
You can modify the mod's configuration, adjusting nightmare probabilities and the number of spawning creatures. Currently, you cannot configure the types of mobs that appear during nightmares as the list is hardcoded, but this feature is planned for future implementation.
