Enchiridion - Enchantment Systems Overhaul

Enchiridion is currently in a beta testing stage! Current mechanics and balance may change before final release to improve gameplay experience.

About the Modification

This mod radically transforms the enchantment system in Minecraft by implementing a categorical system with three main types: primary, supplementary, and secondary enchantments. Each category can only be applied to an item once, adding strategic choice to creating the perfect equipment.

New features:

  • Custom enchantments to fill gaps in the vanilla system
  • Modified existing enchantments for better balance and convenience
  • New enchanting mechanisms including a unique Siphon Table

Changes to Standard Enchantments

Channeling

  • Now works during rain in addition to thunderstorms

Frost Walker

  • Now follows the player during sprinting and jumping
  • Only deactivates when landing on water while sneaking

Impaling

  • Deals damage comparable to Sharpness against mobs in water
  • Drowned now take additional damage from this enchantment

Infinity

  • No longer requires an arrow in inventory for shooting
  • Now compatible with Mending

Loyalty

  • Returns to player even when falling into the void
  • Returns to offhand when thrown from it

Multishot

  • Additional arrows may ignore invulnerability periods if hitting simultaneously
  • Damage from secondary arrows reduced by half

Soul Speed

  • No longer consumes durability

Sweeping Edge

  • Added new particles for sweeping attacks

Thorns

  • Base damage reduced to 3 units (1.5 hearts)
  • Damage may ignore invulnerability periods during multiple simultaneous activations
  • Activates only if attacker is within 2.5 blocks
  • No longer consumes durability

Wind Burst

  • Can now appear in Enchanting Table

🔮 Enchanting Mechanism Changes

📔 Enchanting Table

The enchantment system has undergone significant changes:

  • Reduced experience requirements for enchanting
  • New enchanting levels:

Low Level (0-6): One enchantment, chance for additional without duplicate categories. Available: supplementary, secondary enchantments or Unbreaking.

Medium Level (7-13): Two enchantments with chance for additional. Same category options available.

High Level (14-20): Three enchantments with chance for additional. Same category options.

  • Enchanted item upgrading: Ability to enhance already enchanted items with experience and lapis

🔨 Anvil

Key changes in anvil functionality:

  • Enchantment exchange between items and enchanted books
  • Cost depends on number of enchantments, not number of anvil uses

🧑🦲 Village Changes

Librarian

  • Pre-Master trades available only at levels 1 or rarely 2
  • Available enchantments depend on biome
  • Master level guaranteed to sell Mending in snow, jungle and swamp villages, Unbreaking II in others
  • One book per level, Experts may get an additional one
  • Duplicate enchantments excluded outside Expert level
  • Experts cannot trade curses
  • Book restock reduced to 8 instead of 12
  • Reputation multipliers quartered for books

Armorer

Without experiment:

  • Diamond armor enchantments available through special provider

With village rebalance enabled:

  • Master trades special items for certain categories at low level
  • Expert has access to limited enchantment sets
  • All expert trades changed to 4 armor pieces of different types by biome
  • All master trades changed to 2 different enchanted diamond armor pieces

Toolsmith and Weaponsmith

  • Now offer enchanted weapons from selected pools

Configuration

Radical village modifications can be disabled via config

🌑 Siphon Table

New block for creating enchantments!

  • Allows crafting enchantments using items, lapis, and experience points from Sculk Catalysts
  • Enchantment level scaling based on materials invested
  • Process takes time - works automatically while you do other activities

Enchantment Category System

📙 Primary Enchantments

Marked with yellow bookmark. These fundamentally change item usage, adding new capabilities or completely altering its function.

Standard examples: Fortune, Riptide, Depth Strider

New primary enchantments from Enchiridion:

  • Circuit (leggings): Sprinting in any direction
  • Coyote (boots): Brief air-walking after leaving ground
  • Crumble (pickaxe): Faster natural stone mining without drops
  • Dredge (fishing rod): Chance to catch extra item
  • Earthquake (mace): Increased area and damage of smash attack
  • Gatling (bow): Automatic arrow firing while using
  • Jousting (sword): Increased attack range while riding mobs
  • Longshot: Aiming scope for increased projectile speed and accuracy
  • Prospector (shovel): Chance to find valuables when digging
  • Splitting (axe): More planks from logs than crafting
  • Sticky (leggings): Brief wall climbing
  • Tailwind (sword): Forward dash when attacking air
  • Vaulting (boots): Jump height increase based on movement speed
  • Whirlpool (trident): Creates damaging whirlpool around player

📘 Supplementary Enchantments

Blue bookmarks. These enhance the main direction of item use, working in synergy with primary enchantments.

Examples: Channeling, Fire Aspect

New supplementary enchantments:

  • Agile (leggings): Reduced speed sprinting while using items
  • Cleaving (axe): Increased shield disable duration
  • Climber (leggings): Increased climbing speed
  • Exhilarating (tools): No hunger consumption from mining
  • Experienced (fishing rod): More experience from fishing
  • Flurry (boots): Speed boost on snow/ice and reduced friction
  • Reach: Increased tool interaction radius
  • Reliability (fishing rod): Better quality and durability of fished items
  • Snow Strike (axe/mace): Cold damage and movement slowdown on attack

📗 Secondary Enchantments

Green bookmarks. Provide standard characteristics or conditional improvements without introducing new mechanics.

Standard: Sharpness, Efficiency

Enchiridion adds:

  • Barding (leggings): Reduced damage to ridden mob

📖 Special Categories and Curses

  • Mending and Unbreaking are not categorized - can be applied anywhere
  • Curses are not unique - can have multiple on one item

New curses:

  • Curse of Ashes: Sets all dropped items on fire
  • Curse of Murky Waters: Greatly increases junk catch rate with fishing rod
