Engulfing Darkness
This mod introduces survival elements to Minecraft inspired by games like Don't Starve. The core mechanic involves prolonged exposure to darkness first limiting your field of vision and then leading to character death.
For maximum immersion, it's recommended to use this mod alongside other modifications such as True Darkness, Realistic Torches, or Fragile Torches.
Important Compatibility Information
Dynamic lighting and client-side lighting mods will not protect you from darkness effects. This applies to Optifine, Dynamic Lights, DRG Flares, and similar modifications because Engulfing Darkness uses server-side light levels, while the listed mods only update lighting on the client side.
With Optifine installed, some features may work incorrectly, including the closing fog effect that warns of impending danger. To avoid confusion and strange side effects, it's recommended to play without Optifine.
New Burnout Mechanic (Beta Version)
The mod now includes an experimental Burnout system. When you enter darkness, an indicator appears on your HUD showing your current "burnout" level. This indicator only displays when holding a torch or soul torch.
While the meter isn't completely depleted, you won't suffer any negative darkness effects. Once the meter expires, the item protecting you vanishes while simultaneously refilling the meter.
This mechanic introduces two new enchantments:
- Valiance - increases the time you can spend in darkness before dying
- Soul Sentinel - allows you to save nearby players from lethal darkness damage, with increasing range per level
This is an early version of the Burnout mechanic. Future updates will include more items with unique effects and numerous changes.
Note: To access the Burnout test version, you need to enable "Alpha" files in the downloads section. The test is available for version 1.19.3.
