Evolution of Entities

The Evolution of Entities mod transforms the world of Minecraft by turning every creature into a part of a constantly changing ecosystem. Here, the player's actions directly influence the development of mobs and animals: they can adapt to their environment, evolve, and pass on their unique traits to their offspring. The original mechanics ensure a unique experience in each playthrough — you'll never know what's next or what abilities will manifest in the inhabitants of this virtual world.

Entity Traits & Mutations

Every entity receives specific traits determined by several factors: the region it inhabits, its surroundings, and interaction with the player. These traits give mobs certain advantages—for example, extra health or increased movement speed.

Successful, frequently occurring characteristics are passed on and become more common in the population, while ineffective ones may almost vanish entirely, simulating natural selection processes. The breeding process has also been altered: creatures inherit characteristics from their parents, but they have a slight chance of developing a trait that is typical for the region.

There is a special, rare mutation that can radically change the breeding process or endow creatures with exclusive abilities not found in the standard game.

How Evolution Works

The system calculates the 'success rate' of traits within a specific territory measuring 64 by 64 blocks. This score is based on events: how effectively the creature fought the player, how long it lived after an encounter, or whether it managed to eliminate them.

Regional success statistics directly influence the prevalence of one trait or another. More successful traits are more likely to appear in new creatures, while unsuccessful ones gradually disappear from the population.

You can try to use this to your advantage: for example, deliberately breeding animals with beneficial characteristics—such as increased drops or the ability to eat a more varied diet.

The mod currently includes 20 different traits, among which:

  • Looting: increases the number of dropped items.
  • Projectile Protection: reduces damage from arrows.
  • Damage: enhances the damage dealt.
  • Environmental Adaptation: protects against environmental harm (e.g., from sunlight).
  • Thorns: reflects part of the damage onto the attacker.
  • Healthy: grants additional health points.
  • Melee Protection: reduces physical damage.
  • Mutation: causes unpredictable effects that include acquiring rare traits, non-standard breeding outcomes. Overlays other traits.
  • Explosive Death: explodes upon death (possible only for mutants).
  • Dark Aura: blinds the attacker (possible only for mutants).
  • Speed: increases movement speed.
  • Massive: the entity does not get knocked back, takes less damage, but moves slower.
  • Armored: increases armor level.
  • Omnivore: animals can consume many different types of food.
  • Fertile: animals produce more offspring when breeding.
  • Leaper: rideable entities can jump higher.
  • Eternal Youth: animals never grow up.
  • Generous: villager traders offer more favorable prices.
  • Magic Damage: damage ignores armor.
  • Enduring: reduces the maximum damage taken per hit.

Using in-game configuration options, you can: limit the maximum number of traits per entity; adjust the probability of each trait appearing.

For convenience in tracking mob traits, it is recommended to use integration mods such as Jade or Waila: they display information directly above the creature.
