Expandable Backpacks
The Expandable Backpacks mod adds upgradeable backpacks to Minecraft with multiple functions for convenient storage and item organization.
Getting Started
To create your first backpack, you'll need obsidian leather, which is crafted from obsidian, leather, and two strings. Then combine one piece of obsidian leather with a chest to get a basic backpack.
Open the backpack by right-clicking or pressing the "Open Backpack" key (default 'C'). Initially, the backpack has only one slot, but it can be expanded by adding obsidian leather to the special upgrade slot.

Backpack Slot Inventory
In version 1.0.2+, a special backpack slot was added that doesn't take up inventory space or chestplate slot. Open it with the "Open Backpack Slot Inventory" key (default 'X') or through the button in your inventory.
Upgrade System
The upgrade tab offers various functions:
- Upgrade Slot: Add obsidian leather to increase slot count (up to 54)
- Renaming: Change the backpack's name (up to 32 characters)
- Compartment Slots: Install special modules to expand functionality
- Dye Slot: Change backpack color using dyes
- Privacy Button: Toggle backpack access mode
Backpack Compartments
Various modules add unique capabilities:
- Soulbound: Keeps backpack upon death (requires Nether Star)
- Pickup: Items automatically go into backpack if already present (requires hopper)
- Empty: Transfers all items from backpack to inventory block (requires cauldron)
- Infinite: Allows stacking other backpacks (requires diamond block)
- Incinerate: Destroys items in backpack (requires lava bucket)
- Armored: Increases protection (requires iron chestplate)
- Swap: Exchanges hotbar items with first 9 backpack slots (requires gold block)
- Guarded: Damages players trying to open others' backpacks
- Quivered: Arrows are consumed from backpack (requires leather)
- Ender: Adds access to ender chest (requires ender chest)
- Sending: Sends items to selected inventory (requires sending controller)
- Crafting: Adds crafting table (requires workbench)
- Tank: Stores liquids (requires iron block)
- Creative: Items don't disappear when taken out (commands only)
Privacy and Commands
Each backpack has an owner system and two access modes:
- Public: Accessible to all players
- Private: Accessible only to owners
