Expanded Armory - Expanded Arsenal
Expanded Armory is a datapack that fundamentally changes the armor and shield systems in Minecraft, making combat mechanics more diverse and balanced. The main goal of the mod is to eliminate the imbalance of the standard shield, which was too effective for its cost, and add depth to the armor system.
New Shield System
Instead of one universal shield, 10 different types are now available, each with unique characteristics. All shields are divided into three categories: material, magical, and special.
Material Shields
Six levels of shields made from different materials: wooden, stone, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite. Each material affects movement speed - the heaviest (netherite and stone) significantly slow down the player, while gold and diamond shields have almost no impact on mobility.
Each shield level has a limit on blocked damage. In general, shields can block attacks from swords of their level, projectiles with damage up to twice the value, and explosive damage three levels higher. Preparation time for blocking varies depending on the material, eliminating instant protection. The protection angle is 120 degrees.
Magical Shields
Three types of magical shields: amethyst, lapis, and emerald. Their main feature is the ability to block magical damage, which is not available in the standard game. The emerald shield blocks 2 units of magical damage, amethyst - 4 units, and lapis - as many as 6 units, but with reduced protection against explosions and projectiles.
Special Shields
The ceramic shield is the only representative of this category. It provides complete protection against physical, projectile, and magical damage, but has extremely low durability. Damage below a certain threshold does not reduce durability, but each effective hit takes away at least 10% of maximum durability. The protection angle is increased to 180 degrees.
Reworked Armor System
Leather and wool armor have become slightly weaker, but each piece increases movement speed. Chainmail armor retains standard protection values but loses the speed bonus, while the chestplate and leggings slightly slow movement.
Gold armor gained knockback and explosion knockback resistance, but the main elements also reduce speed. Iron armor provides toughness, knockback resistance, but noticeably slows movement. Diamond and netherite armor offer maximum protection and resistance but significantly limit mobility.
Crafting Changes
Chain recipes have become less expensive, gold armor has become slightly cheaper, while iron armor, on the contrary, requires more resources, complicating armor progression. All modified and new recipes are automatically added to the recipe book after picking up any item in the world.
Compatibility
Armor modification works through an advancement system that checks equipped armor without special tags. This means any armor in the world will receive modifiers. Datapacks with custom armor that have attributes different from the base ones will be overridden. For compatibility with other datapacks, add custom data to custom armor: {"qwasdf_armory.ignore" : "1b"}.
