Extended Days

Have you ever noticed that ten minutes before nightfall is catastrophically insufficient? This mod allows you to increase the duration of day and night... or shorten it. You can independently configure additional time, with parameters set separately for day and night. Additionally, the mod adds a special clock to the interface screen.

It's important to note that this is not a core mod. That was the goal during its development. Changing time in Minecraft is an extremely difficult, almost impossible task. This mod uses special techniques to simulate additional time, but it may not work correctly with some mods.

How does it work?

At certain points in the day and night cycle, the mod "freezes" time. The game continues to run normally, and the sun, moon, and stars move as they should (if sky rendering is enabled). After a specified interval in the settings, time is "unfrozen". These intervals are called extended periods. You can create as many extended periods as you want. If you enter a negative value for the minutes added, time will skip forward (errors may occur) instead of being extended. By default, there is one extended period at noon (game time 6000) and one at midnight (18000).

Default settings add 30 minutes at noon and 10 minutes at midnight. As a result, the day lasts 40 minutes, and the night lasts 20 minutes, meaning the full cycle is 1 hour. You can add, remove, or modify extended periods as you see fit.

Are there any drawbacks?

  • Mods that also change sky rendering may not work correctly. If necessary, sky rendering in Extended Days can be disabled in the settings.
  • Some mods that use world time for creature AI may not function during extended periods (e.g., Millénaire).
  • Shortening day or night using negative periods will cause the sky to jump abruptly.
  • Regular clocks will become less useful (but not useless).
  • The "/time set" command may not work as you expect.
  • When playing with Tough As Nails, temperature management may become more difficult depending on the timing of extended periods (perhaps moving them to morning or evening would help?).

Otherwise, everything should work normally. Data blocks will continue to update at the usual rate. The AI of most creatures will not be affected.

Clock Panel

Since you can no longer simply look at the sun or moon to see how much time is left, the mod adds a special clock to the interface screen. Usually, it is only visible when there is a clear sky above your head, or when there is a clock or pocket watch in your inventory. You can also configure it to be displayed constantly. The sun (or moon at night) shows how far the day has progressed. Thus, it moves from sunrise to sunset.

The position of the clock can be changed through the configuration file. The mod has a graphical settings interface, so simply go to the mods menu, select Extended Days, and click "Settings" to edit them without restarting the game.

Clock

Pocket Watch

The pocket watch is an improved version of the regular clock, crafted from a clock and some type of quartz (Nether quartz will work). They are not animated like vanilla clocks, but having them in your inventory causes the clock panel to be displayed constantly. The exact time will also be shown next to the clock panel.

Future Plans and Known Issues

The mod is in the early stages of development. Additional features are planned, and some minor issues still need to be fixed.

  • A command for accurately setting time. The mod already adds one (/edtime set), but it's not very intuitive at the moment. This is complicated due to how the mod tracks time, but the issue can be resolved.
  • Seasons might be added, but it's not certain yet.
  • [Added] A pocket watch item to replace the regular clock. It will allow you to see the clock panel at any time and get more accurate time readings. Works from anywhere in your inventory and is compatible with Baubles.
  • [May not be implemented] Adding markers to the clock to indicate the timing of extended periods.
  • [Fixed] Version 0.1.0 does not synchronize time between client and server properly. The clock panel will not display correct values when playing on a server. But the mod still works on servers. Singleplayer is unaffected.
