From the Ground Up Mod

The From the Ground Up mod completely rethinks item creation mechanics in Minecraft. All standard crafting recipes are now tied to technological research, and players can only craft items after successfully researching the corresponding technology.

Research Mechanics

The research system is built around puzzles that resemble the mechanics from the familiar Thaumcraft mod. During research, players experiment with various items until they achieve the desired result. All discoveries and developments are recorded in a special research book.

Main Blocks and Items

Research Materials

The mod features three types of parchment:

• Blank parchment - used only in crafting recipes
• Idea parchment - participates in research processes
• Research parchment - the final research product

Interestingly, after using research parchment with right-click, it transforms back into blank parchment.

Workstations

Idea Table - the initial research table requiring a feather and some parchment to operate. Allows combining up to three items, producing an idea template upon success.

Research Table - the main workstation where all technological research is completed. Works only with idea templates and feathers. Offers two puzzle types:

• Match puzzle: Requires finding specific items, with the table providing hints for filling necessary slots
• Connection puzzle: Requires creating a logical chain of three intermediate items between two endpoints, with connections based on crafting recipes

Research Book

Players starting a new world automatically receive a research book. It contains:

• All already researched technologies
• Available research directions
• Lists of items and blocks that become craftable after mastering each technology
• Viewing all crafting recipes for these items

Additional Tools

Magnifying Glass provides the key scanning mechanic - this ability makes hints in match puzzles much clearer. The tool must be placed directly in the research table.

Customizable Content

The developers have provided the capability for mod creators to add their own technologies and research. All necessary information is available on the relevant platforms.
