Gadgets of the Sky
Gadgets of the Sky mod offers a collection of unique devices that become essential companions in your adventures. Using special shards created at the sky altar, you can craft various gadgets for movement, combat, and solving other gameplay challenges.
Getting Started
To begin using the mod, you need to find a buried treasure chest. Maps to such chests can be discovered in shipwrecks and underwater ruins. In addition to regular treasures, the chest contains a sky island explorer map. Don't forget to also take the heart of the sea - you'll need it later.
This map will lead you to a floating island where the sky altar is located. The altar itself shows which items it's ready to accept. During your first visit, it will ask for the heart of the sea. You can place the item in the altar by right-clicking with the item in hand or using a hopper and other automation mods.
After consuming the heart of the sea, flames will light up on the altar's corners, indicating its activation. Next, the altar will require glowstone dust as fuel. One unit of dust provides three altar uses. The process is easily automated by directing a hopper with glowstone dust into the altar.
The activated altar will cyclically show items that can be used to create shards. By default, it accepts nether quartz or a glow ink sac. Quartz gives an air shard, while the ink sac gives a water shard. All recipes can be viewed through EMI, and custom recipes are added via datapacks.
Mod Features
Sky Altar
The sky altar is a new crafting station located on floating islands above mountain biomes. It's used to create shards from which gadgets are then crafted. The altar runs on glowstone dust, requiring refueling every three uses.
When broken, the altar drops along with all stored items and the heart of the sea if it was activated. No special tool is required for breaking, but a pickaxe speeds up the process.
Altars are easily automated using hoppers and other automation mods. You can supply fuel and crafting ingredients, as well as extract finished products. Automation is simplified by the fact that the altar accepts either fuel or ingredients at specific times.
Sky Islands
Sky islands are new structures appearing above mountain biomes. Each island contains a sky altar. The easiest way to find an island is to follow the map from a buried treasure chest. Remember to look up while searching, as islands can be quite high.
Shards
Shards are new items created at the sky altar. They have no functionality on their own and serve only as ingredients for crafting gadgets.
Water Orb
The water orb allows swimming in the air. Crafting requires a diamond, two water shards, and two nautilus shells. Activated by right-clicking and lasts 10 seconds.
During activation, you can swim in the air and won't take fall damage. After use, there's a 2-second cooldown. The orb withstands 50 uses before breaking.
Water orb applications:
- Navigating difficult terrain and steep slopes
- Escaping from mobs and other players
- Safe falling from heights
- Passing through narrow openings without using trapdoors or elytra
Water Staff
The water staff allows shooting water projectiles. Crafting requires a water shard, stick, and diamond. Used by right-clicking.
The projectile creates a temporary water block at the impact point. Flight range - 2 seconds, staff durability - 128 uses. Each shot is followed by a short cooldown.
The staff is useful for neutralizing fall damage, extinguishing fires, harvesting crops, and pushing mobs away.
Air Staff
The air staff shoots wind charges similar to the breeze. Crafting requires an air shard, stick, and diamond. Durability - 128 uses.
The projectile pushes players and mobs away from the impact point and can activate redstone components. Doesn't cause damage but can knock mobs off cliffs or toss them into the air.
The staff is excellent for movement - with practice, you can master "rocket jumping". Also useful for remote redstone activation and breaking contraptions.
