GeoStrata
GeoStrata is a compact modification that fundamentally transforms Minecraft's underground world, making the resource gathering process and cave exploration much more exciting. Simultaneously, the mod offers numerous aesthetic and practical building materials for your projects.
Variety of Rock Types
The main concept of the mod involves adding various types of real-world rock formations that replace approximately 10-20% of regular stone in the world. Each rock type generates at appropriate depths and in suitable biomes - for example, shales and limestones, being sedimentary rocks, are more commonly found in oceans and do not appear in deserts. It's important to note that these new stones do not interfere with ore generation and do not replace them.
Properties and Applications
Different rocks possess varying durability. Some require higher quality pickaxes for mining, but at the same time have increased resistance to explosions. Granite and hornfels are the most durable, while soft rocks like shale are the easiest to destroy.
All GeoStrata rocks behave similarly to vanilla stone - they generate as smooth stone, drop as cobblestone when mined (unless using Silk Touch enchantment), can be smelted into smooth stone, and used to create bricks. Various decorative block variants are also available.
Underground Ventilation Openings
The mod adds special ventilation openings in caves that can even appear beneath layers of liquid. They are usually in a dormant state but periodically activate for several seconds, emitting particles, sounds, and producing various effects.
There are six types of ventilation openings:
- Steam vents - emit white smoke and deal 0.5 hearts of damage per second to entities standing on them
- Smoke vents - release black smoke without dealing damage
- Fire vents - create flames, set mobs on fire, and deal 1 heart of damage per second
- Lava vents - emit lava particles, deal 4 hearts of damage per second, and set mobs and blocks on fire
- Gas vents - release potion particles and apply poison effect to an area
- Water vents - create splashes, harm endermen, and extinguish burning entities
Dangerous vent types (fire and gas) are found at greater depths. All openings respond to redstone signals and activate when receiving a positive pulse. They can only be harvested using the Silk Touch enchantment.
Additional Features
Some standard Minecraft blocks can also be converted into brick variants while maintaining their original properties - this applies to redstone, glowstone, and obsidian.
