Glacidus
Glacidus won first place in the ModOff 2 competition! For the best experience, make sure to install Optifine or CTM (ConnectedTextureMod), otherwise most visual effects won't work.
It's also recommended to keep music, sounds, and ambient noises enabled. We present Glacidus Beta—the version we created in a week during ModOff, showcasing the hard work and effort we invested. Naturally, the mod is still incomplete. We hope you'll be interested in what we believe is truly impressive. Remember, everything is subject to change!
Development for modern Minecraft versions continues but is currently on hold. Stay tuned for updates!
About Glacidus
The world of icy peaks conceals an underground mystery. You'll find a strange planet with bizarre formations and seemingly uninhabitable conditions. The deeper you descend, the warmer it gets. At depth, you'll encounter vegetation, water, and other natural elements. This planet once orbited in a star system but drifted away and now wanders through space. Its atmosphere is very thin, while underground warmth comes from the planet's core, making it habitable.
Level 1: The Surface
The surface is the first thing you'll see upon entering Glacidus. Here it's incredibly cold, with reduced gravity. This is a medium-to-high difficulty zone, second most dangerous among all levels. Soon, you can discover abandoned ruins with valuable loot. The landscape includes giant dead trees, dried Lumicia stalks, frozen Antinatric Stone, and massive Glacium deposits. Wind ambient sounds continuously accompany exploration.
Alien creatures inhabit the surface, protected from the cold by their thick skin. They live in burrows inside giant spikes and wander aimlessly. Another monster lurks deep within Glacium, attacking with frozen balls that inflict the Freezing debuff.
Level 2: The Underground
Warmer than the surface, yet dark and full of mysterious glow. This is the planet's most habitable zone. Here you'll find natural Lumicia blocks—local vegetation, soil, mosses, and vines. The water here has a purplish hue due to the environment. Creatures here look bizarre and behave unpredictably, potentially turning hostile at any moment, especially if attacked. Underground wind sounds enhance the atmosphere.
Level 3: The Core
The deepest level is extremely dangerous and challenging. It's bright, hot, and full of deadly hostile mobs. Without preparation, players won't get far. Without special armor, you'll quickly get the Heat Exhaustion debuff. Local enemies attack upon detection. However, there are safe zones, like cave exits. Wood, leaves, and cloth ignite instantly when placed; water evaporates; and Glacium turns into water and also vaporizes. This area features a raid zone.
Creating a Portal
The portal design may change over time. Currently, it requires exactly 30 packed ice blocks and 1 glowstone block. After building it, break the glowstone block.
