Hammers and Smithing
This mod fundamentally transforms the smithing system in Minecraft, adding new requirements for item creation and resource mining, while introducing unique tools, armor, and crafting recipes.
Key Changes in Version 6.1.0 (Only for 1.21)
Newly crafted items now have "low quality" status and can receive up to 4 different negative effects. Master tools with maximum durability of 21 can be found in dungeon chests, functioning like netherite hammers of the fifth tier.
Added a new recipe type - smithing repair, which:
- Removes low quality effects
- Doesn't require template usage
- Needs a fifth-tier hammer
- Formula: low_quality_item + repair_material → normal_item
Crafting kits have also been introduced - having one in inventory allows crafting items without a smithing table. Heavy blocks like anvils or smithing tables slow down the player when carried in inventory.
Material Changes
- Added copper items
- Golden items now surpass iron items (vanilla golden items remain available)
- Revised durability of wooden, stone, and vanilla golden tools
- Changed damage of wooden, stone, and iron tools
- New mining levels: copper mined with stone pickaxe, iron with copper pickaxe, gold with iron, etc.
Hammers
Hammers serve not only for smithing work but also as weapons:
- Deal more damage than swords but less than axes
- Have the lowest attack speed among all tools
- Can hit multiple targets simultaneously
- Attacks slow down enemies for a short time
Smithing Tables
The system includes four types of smithing tables: copper, iron, golden, and diamond. The vanilla smithing table is disabled. Netherite items are crafted on the diamond smithing table.
Crafting Restrictions
Tools and armor cannot be created until the appropriate smithing table is placed near the crafting table. These tables require significant resources, making diamond tools harder to obtain.
Villager Changes
Overhauled trade offers for toolsmiths, weaponsmiths, and armorers:
- Golden items are sold instead of diamond ones
- Added copper item sales
Other Changes
- Changed loot from chests (iron items replaced with golden ones in late-game chests)
- Zombies and skeletons no longer spawn with golden armor
- Wither skeletons spawn with iron swords
Compatibility
The mod may conflict with modifications that:
- Add or change trade offers for vanilla villagers
- Alter resource mining levels
Datapack Support
Addition count, required smithing table, and required hammer can be modified through datapacks. If a recipe doesn't specify these parameters, default values are used.
