HexLands Sizes

A data pack that expands the capabilities of the HexLands mod, offering several preset hexagon sizes to diversify gameplay.

Available Sizes

The pack includes four scaling options for the hexagonal grid:

  • Size 20: Compact zones, perfect for building a small house or other compact structure with surrounding area
  • HexLands (40): Standard default size, optimal for showcasing all mod features
  • Size 100: Spacious areas where a single hexagon can accommodate a large base, with horses fitting comfortably on borders
  • Size 300: Maximum size while maintaining hexagon visibility, with moderately wide borders

Landscape biomes generate with scale 32, ensuring random distribution according to standard HexLands settings.

Technical Features

The main configuration follows this format:

"hex_settings": {
    "biome_scale": 32,
    "hex_size": 100,
    "hex_border_threshold": 0.92,
    "bottom_border": {
        "min_height": 62,
        "max_height": 66,
        "state": {
            "Name": "minecraft:stone_bricks",
            "Properties": {}
        }
    }
}

This configuration fully complies with the HexLands mod description. This data pack serves a dual purpose: providing ready-to-use settings and serving as a practical example for external configuration.

Limitations and Possibilities

The current version includes configurations only for the Overworld (not for Nether and End dimensions). However, the pack can serve as a useful template for creating configurations for these dimensions. In vanilla Minecraft conditions, using hexagonal zones in Nether and End is less justified for creating unique experiences.

For use in single-player or server:

  1. Extract the pack contents into a 'hexlands_sizes' folder within the datapacks directory
  2. Activate the data pack

Experiment with settings – for example, try setting hex_size to 10 for a finely fragmented world effect.

Compatibility

Although the pack version is specified for Minecraft 1.20.1, it works correctly in most versions where HexLands provides access to settings via data packs. These include versions from 1.19.x through 1.20.x, and likely later releases.

Without the complementary resource pack, preset names in world generation menu will display as service identifiers ("generated.hexlands_sizes...").

Legal Aspects

This pack is distributed under CC0 license (public domain), meaning complete freedom of use: downloading, distribution, copying, editing, and republishing are permitted without any restrictions, including the need for permission or attribution. The pack functions both as a practical tool and learning resource.
