Into The Void
Developer Note: This is an old mod that is only maintained for the BetterMC+ 1.16.5 modpack. No rework is planned, updates are only possible for critical bug fixes. If you experience crashes, try turning off the sound. The 1.18 version will not be updated or fixed.
"If you're not careful and escape reality in the wrong places, you'll end up in the void, where there's nothing but the smell of rotting fruit, the madness of the black sky, endless background noise, and millions of square miles of empty space. May God help you if you hear something wandering nearby, because it definitely heard you."
The mod adds a new dimension beyond bedrock, filled with unique monsters, structures, and items!
Getting Started
The core mechanic of the mod is gas extraction. Depending on the world you are in, you can obtain various gases. For this, you need an oxygen sealer, into which you place an empty bottle and a slimeball. Placing foliage above the device speeds up the process. Each world (except the End, where there is no oxygen) provides a unique gas.
Gases
- Oxygen (Overworld Gas): Allows you to replenish air underwater. Liquid oxygen turns into a liquid at layer 200.
- Nether Gas: Highly flammable and explosive. Drinking it gives the "combustible" effect. When placed in a still with a nether wart, it creates a potion of combustibility.
- Void Air (Void Gas): Creates a "null" block, allowing travel between the Overworld and the Void. (1.16.5 FIX ONLY: Can be destroyed by right-clicking the null block with another gas bottle. Placing and removing it causes a powerful explosion.)
- Liquid Oxygen: Allows placing snow layers. Turns bedrock into weak bedrock, which can be broken.
The Void
Remember to take a balloon or a slow falling potion, as you are constantly falling when entering or exiting the Void!
There are two ways to enter the Void:
- Go through a portal (null block, created using a void air bottle), but it is only visible in the Void.
- Fall into the void in the Overworld or the End.
To escape, use a null block or jump behind bedrock in the Void. Liquid oxygen is obtained above layer 200 with an oxygen bottle.
If you get stuck in the dimension, remember there is a way out (1.16.5 FIX ONLY)! You can mine void stone, find iron, redstone, slime, or bottles in structure chests, or get redstone from parasites and slimeballs from Servants of the Keeper. Once you have the materials, craft an oxygen extractor and use a bottle with a slimeball to get void air. Place it to create a null block—a portal between the Void and the Overworld (it teleports you high in the Overworld's sky, so you'll need a bucket, a balloon, a slow falling potion, or luck to land on a mountain or in an ocean).
Structures and Vegetation
- Void Tree: A fruit tree, fruits are collected by right-clicking. You can also break the leaves, but this may spawn a parasite.
- Fallen Explorer Camp with a Piece of Bedrock: A wool tent with a bed and a crafting table. Void wood does not allow crafting a crafting table, so this is the only way to get one in the dimension if you didn't bring your own. The structure is very rare, so it's better to be prepared.
- Ruined House: A small structure made of brick and void wood. Contains a bed with a chest that may hold various mod items and enchanted books.
- Boss Arena: A relatively rare structure with a block with orange corners in the center. Clicking on it summons the boss and his servants.
Mobs
- Void Inhabitant: Defends itself when attacked. Periodically becomes invisible and during this time is extremely fast, making escape difficult.
- Withered Allay: Aggressive version of the allay with a wither effect. Attacks with a wither spit.
- Parasite: Appears during the boss fight and when breaking fruit leaves, and also spawns like other mobs. When it bites a player who doesn't already have the effect, it applies the "Void Parasite" effect.
- Shadow Golem: The mod's pet, harmless to the player. Tamed with distorted fruits. Uses an attack similar to the withered allay.
- Servants of the Keeper: Spawn when the boss is summoned, attack with fast rays (white ray) and buff the boss if nearby. Can be identified by the boss's particles: grey means weakened, light red means buffed.
- The Keeper: The protector of the dimension, sealed in an arena. Made of void stone and void shards. Has 3 phases (its health bar is divided into 6 parts, each phase corresponds to 2 parts):
- Phase 1: Full health, summons parasites and launches the player upward.
- Phase 2: Creates explosions when taking damage and inflicts negative effects on the player.
- Phase 3: The most dangerous, can launch the player higher and use an ability that paralyzes the attacking player while buffing itself, making it stronger and faster. Upon death, disintegrates into 10 parasites that infect the player if they try to collect the loot. Also inflicts weakness and hunger on nearby players.
Decorative Blocks
Include planks and derived items from void wood, as well as several variants of void stone.
Items
- Void Powder: Right-click while sneaking transforms blocks with a void variant (cobblestone, planks, wood, etc.) into their void version. Drops from parasites and ruined house chests.
- Void Shards: Used to craft the void ingot (4 void shards + 4 diamonds).
- Void Ingot: Allows upgrading netherite items to shadow items in a smithing table.
- Distorted Fruit: Has a chance to cause paranoia for a few seconds. The only food in the dimension. Found on trees and in ruined house loot. Shadow golems also drop 1 upon death.
Shadow Tools and Gear
- Armor is slightly better than netherite. Sneaking makes you invisible, fast (almost as fast as walking), and resistant. Also protects from the paranoia effect.
- Shadow Sword: Inflicts wither on the victim.
- Shadow Pickaxe: Mines in a 3x3 area.
- Other items: More durable and efficient.
Fun Items
- Balloon: Holding it gives slow falling, holding two (one in the off-hand) allows slow flight. Very useful as it's easy to craft and prevents death from falling when entering the Void!
- Flamethrower: Shoots continuously while holding right-click. Reload by sneaking and right-clicking with a nether gas bottle in the off-hand.
- Dragon's Breath: Throws projectiles resembling Ender Dragon projectiles, dealing high damage. Shoots continuously while holding right-click. Reload by sneaking and right-clicking with a dragon's breath bottle in the off-hand.
Enchantments
- Hope: Sword enchantment. When the player has 4 hearts or less, they can sneak to receive energy from living beings and plants in the world. This gives slowness to all non-aggressive mobs within 30 blocks and strength 5 to the player, who is surrounded by small particles.
- Voidic Repair: (Treasure enchantment, obtainable through fishing, villagers, or chests). Automatically repairs damaged items if the player wears them (armor) or holds them in their hand/off-hand. Repairs on average 1 durability every 10 seconds.
- Serenity (I and II): Helmet enchantment. Reduces the probability and duration of paranoia in the Void. Sometimes clears paranoia.
Potion Effects
- Paranoia: Shakes the player's camera and makes them hear monster sounds/damage. Obtained randomly while in the Void.
- Void Parasite: Obtained when bitten by a parasite. When the effect ends, a Void Inhabitant emerges from the player's body and deals significant damage.
- Combustible: Obtained by "drinking" void gas or with the corresponding potion (Nether Gas + Nether Wart in a still). When an entity contacts fire, the effect is removed and an explosion occurs.
