Keep Inventory Nerf
Background
In Minecraft survival mode, using the keep inventory rule has always been a highly debated topic. Our mod aims to strike a balance - players will still face consequences for dying but retain most of their items and experience. This approach creates less devastating and more enjoyable gameplay, drawing inspiration from games like Stardew Valley where death only results in losing a few random items.
Key Changes
A new balance is introduced to the death mechanics:
- Keep inventory is enabled by default for new worlds
- When dying, 1 to 3 random items are dropped from the inventory (configurable via
keepInventoryMinItemsToDrop
andkeepInventoryMaxItemsToDrop
game rules) - Players lose only a small percentage of their experience - the less experience you had, the less you lose
- Recovery Compass no longer drops if it was in the player's inventory at the time of death
- A notification about lost items appears upon death, showing coordinates of the death location and featuring a tooltip listing the lost items
Important: For existing worlds, the keep inventory rule is not automatically enabled.
Simply hover over the lost items message to identify exactly what you've lost.
