LOTR: Companions (Renewed Addon)

Important Note: This modification is in early development and may contain some bugs, but regular updates will be released over the next few months!

This addon for Minecraft Forge 1.16 (currently in alpha version) brings back the ability to hire combat units in LOTR Renewed. The project is partially inspired by the Human Companions mod and requires the main The Lord of the Rings Mod: Renewed modification to work, and is also part of the Renewed Extended project, which gradually transfers all content from LOTR: Legacy to the renewed version.

Required Modifications

  1. The Lord of the Rings Mod: Renewed
  2. LOTR: Renewed Extended

Hireable Units

  • Gondor Soldiers - 60 coins
  • Bree-land Guards - 40 coins

Currently the selection is limited but will expand with updates

Main Features

Most NPCs from the Lord of the Rings world drop silver coins that can be used to hire fighters - simply right-click on an available soldier with any coin in hand.

Hired units will follow you (unless you set them to stationary mode) and attack any NPCs that attack you. Fighters automatically use food from their inventory to heal when their health is low.

The leveling system allows mercenaries to increase their level and health pool. Health indicators are displayed above their heads, allowing you to monitor their condition from a distance. The ability to change the equipment of hired fighters is also available.

Planned Features

  • Configuration of mercenary participation in PvP
  • Addition of farmers
  • Reduction of hiring cost depending on faction reputation
  • Expansion of the list of hireable units for all NPCs
  • Territory guard mode
  • Hunting mode

Known Issues

  • Hired soldiers don't always spawn with the same equipment as the original units
  • Friendly units sometimes accidentally damage mercenaries, leading to conflicts between them
