Map Atlases
About the Mod
The Map Atlases mod offers an elegant navigation solution for Minecraft using standard game maps. The main element is the Atlas, which is created through simple crafting: a filled map, a book, and a sticky item (slimeball or honey bottle).
The scale of the source map determines the scale of the entire Atlas. It's brilliantly simple - turns out all you need for a mini-map is to attach a map to a book!
Expanding Capabilities
You can add both filled and empty maps to the Atlas through a crafting table or cartography table. Important: all added filled maps must be of the same scale. Each Atlas can hold up to 512 maps (this value is configurable). To remove maps, use shears together with the Atlas in the crafting grid.
World Exploration
When the Atlas is active (on your hotbar or off-hand), it displays the current map on the interface if such a map exists inside the Atlas. Filled maps continue to update your location and world state.
Empty maps are automatically used when entering unexplored territories to create new maps of the corresponding scale. In creative mode, new maps are created even without empty maps in the Atlas.
Atlases work between dimensions - they create new maps in new dimensions as you'd expect. The mini-map can display current X, Y, Z coordinates and biome.
Trinkets support: when Trinkets is installed, a special slot for the Atlas appears where it continues to function normally.
World Navigation
The Atlas also has a world map view mode. To access it, right-click the Atlas or press "m" when the Atlas is on your hotbar.
The world map has selectable tabs for each dimension you've explored and created maps for. There are also tabs for each added banner in each dimension - clicking them centers the view on the map with that banner.
The world map displays the active X and Z coordinates of the point where the mouse cursor is hovering. Zooming is supported using the mouse wheel (1x1, 3x3, 5x5, 7x7, etc.) and full map navigation through dragging.
Atlases support adding "waypoints" through right-clicking banners, which appear on both the mini-map and world map.
Sharing Features
Atlases can be merged using a cartography table - simply place two Atlases in the top and bottom slots, and they'll combine their explored regions!
Atlases support lecterns - showcase your world by placing an Atlas on a lectern! The Atlas will look different depending on the dimension it's displayed in - there are unique textures for the Overworld, Nether, End, and "Other" dimensions.
Atlases can be stored in chiseled bookshelves in version 1.20+
