Mimic Mod
Enhancing Vanilla Minecraft with Mimics
This mod is designed to improve standard Minecraft structures, making the exploration and looting process more exciting and challenging. While the mimic concept existed before, most similar mods remained in older game versions. Our project brings this interesting mechanic to version 1.16.5 and is completely standalone - it can be added to both modpacks and pure vanilla Minecraft.
Mimic Features
Mimics are hostile mobs that have a small chance of appearing instead of regular chests in various world structures. They can be found in igloos, strongholds, nether fortresses, end cities, jungle temples, spawner dungeons, pyramids, and woodland mansions.
While the mimic isn't opened or attacked, it remains motionless. When activated, it knocks the player back and begins attacking. Since mimics contain valuable loot, they deal significant damage.
Interaction Mechanics
When a mimic appears instead of a chest, it behaves like a regular container and doesn't disappear until all items are taken from it or it's killed. A special "mimic lock" item allows you to lock the creature's mouth and safely retrieve loot, however when removing items there's a chance the mimic will try to escape, forcing the player to fight it.
A mimic can only be opened when it's pretending to be a chest - when it stands up, access to the inventory is closed. You can identify a mimic by the bloody interface that appears when opened (tamed mimics have a normal interface).
Taming and Management
The mimic key allows you to tame the creature if you manage to find one and react quickly enough. A tamed mimic follows the player like a pet, it can be sat down or stood up. In the sitting position, it serves as portable storage.
The mimic heart (mimic:fake_chest) allows you to summon a mimic - for this you need to hold Shift and right-click on a chest block. After 4 seconds, the chest will turn into a mimic with a random loot pool (the item set can be configured via a datapack).
Combat Features
Since mimics are made of wood, they take extra damage from axes. When appearing, the mimic begins wandering in search of a chest to consume (taking its items and occupying its place).
A locked mimic cannot be tamed - only regular specimens are suitable for this. Tamed mimics teleport to the player if they get too far away.
