Moovy

A modification that completely reworks the movement system in Minecraft, created as part of ModFest: Singularity. This mod introduces mechanics characteristic of classic shooters with dynamic movement.

How the System Works

To activate the new movement capabilities, you need to enchant boots with Soul Speed. It's important to note that using the mod does not reduce the durability of your footwear.

Moovy introduces several fundamentally new movement mechanics, implemented in such a way that standard movement remains almost unchanged for those who prefer classic gameplay.

Sliding

When crouching during fast movement instead of slowing down, the character begins to slide. Sliding is characterized by low friction, allowing you to maintain built-up speed. In the air, friction becomes even less. During sliding, the swimming animation is activated, reducing the character's hitbox and allowing penetration into narrow spaces. Taking damage interrupts sliding.

Acceleration Upon Landing

If you crouch immediately before touching the ground, you can completely avoid fall damage and convert some vertical velocity into horizontal acceleration. Each level of Soul Speed enchantment provides an additional acceleration charge. The state of charges is displayed by particles: smoke means no charges, small flame means one charge, large flame means two charges. Absence of particles indicates a full supply of charges for the current enchantment level. Important: you can cancel fall damage even without charges, but additional acceleration is only available with at least one charge.

Jump from Sliding

Jumping during sliding gives additional height proportional to current speed. To activate this technique, you need to slide for at least one game tick, which prevents infinite repetition of jumps when holding the jump key. Note: the height of a jump from sliding may be sufficient to take fall damage, which will interrupt sliding, so it's important to use acceleration in time to neutralize damage.

Wall Running

When moving with sufficient speed along a wall at an acute angle, the character "catches" the surface and begins running along it. In the initial moment, gravity doesn't act, but then the character gradually begins to slide down. Jumping during wall running gives additional horizontal speed in the direction of view. Landing restores the anti-slip effect.

Vaulting Over Obstacles

When crouching while moving toward a ledge, if there's enough space above the head and the feet are against the edge, the character vaults over the obstacle. This preserves the speed gained before collision with the obstacle, which is restored after overcoming it. Vaulting also doesn't interrupt sprint, despite collision with the wall.

Speed Control at High Speeds

After reaching a certain speed threshold, the movement control system changes. Instead of simply adding speed, there's a "turn" of the movement vector without changing the speed magnitude (except for the effects of resistance and acceleration). This mechanic is inspired by the Source Engine movement system.

Important Features

When wearing enchanted Soul Speed boots, the player automatically switches to the new movement system. The developer sought to maximally preserve the vanilla feel, but some changes are inevitable:

  • Sprint jump no longer gives acceleration (this would make sliding excessively powerful)
  • Jump height is slightly reduced
  • Falling speed is slightly increased
  • Overall controllability has become less "slippery" on regular surfaces, but more slippery on ice

Note for Server Administrators

The mod is not compatible with the standard anti-cheat system of vanilla Minecraft. By its nature, the mod allows achieving extreme speeds and performing complex maneuvers, so the built-in movement anti-cheat system was disabled. This may have certain consequences for server security, but for a mod created as part of ModFest, full compatibility issues were not a priority.
