Mystcraft
Inspired by the famous Myst game series, this mod brings to Minecraft the amazing ability to create and explore entire worlds using magical books. In Myst, there are special tomes that describe various dimensions known as Ages. Each Age has unique characteristics and can be either a safe paradise or a dangerous, unstable environment.
Main Features
Mystcraft allows players to create their own dimensions and travel between them. Various types of books are used for this, each serving a specific function in this magical process.
Book Types and Their Uses
Descriptive Books are crafted from a regular book and feather. They generate completely new dimensions upon first use. It's important to remember: this is a one-way journey, so you always need to plan your return in advance.
Linking Books are made from a simple book and remember the creator's current location. They allow returning to the starting point from any dimension, including the Nether and the End.
Usage Mechanics
Books can be activated directly from inventory or placed on special stands and lecterns. When used from hand, the book remains in the departure dimension, so it's crucial to create return paths beforehand.
Books left in the world gradually decay and can be destroyed by fire or other damage. To pick up a book from the ground, use the Shift + Right-click combination.
Age Creation and Stabilization
Each dimension is formed based on symbols written in the descriptive book. Incomplete descriptions are automatically supplemented with random symbols, which adds instability to the world.
Unstable Ages can manifest various dangerous effects:
- Decay Blocks gradually destroy the landscape. Black decay spreads horizontally and causes blocks above to collapse. Colored variants consume blocks without collapses, while white decay additionally damages all creatures.
- Potion effects activate when under open sky.
- Meteor showers fall from the sky, causing significant destruction.
Additional Devices
Writing Desks allow viewing symbols in books, renaming Ages, and in the future - changing their properties.
Notebooks are used to record learned symbols, which can only be obtained by exploring randomly generated worlds.
Portals are created from Mystcraft crystal blocks with books installed in special receptacles. They allow entire groups of creatures to travel between dimensions.
