Named Areas (Forge)

Attention: This mod is no longer in active development as it has been replaced by the improved version Areas, which supports multiplayer mode!

Important limitation: This mod works only in singleplayer.

Named Areas is a minimalist configurable mod that allows creating named zones and territories with a specified radius or by biomes using signs. Notifications about entering and leaving zones can be configured through the graphical interface or chat, and area overlapping is permitted.

Configuration

sendChatMessages (default = false): Enables sending zone notifications to chat.

showHUDMessages (default = true): Displays zone notifications on screen in HUD.

_HUDOnlyAreaName (default = false): Shows only the zone name in HUD without prefixes and suffixes.

_HUDMessageFadeDelayMs (default = 3500, min 100, max 360000): Delay in milliseconds before HUD message disappears.

_HUDMessageHeightOffset (default = 10, min 0, max 3000): Vertical offset of HUD message to prevent interface overlapping.

_HUD_RGB_R (default = 100, min 0, max 255): Red RGB component for HUD message.

_HUD_RGB_G (default = 200, min 0, max 255): Green RGB component for HUD message.

_HUD_RGB_B (default = 50, min 0, max 255): Blue RGB component for HUD message.

joinPrefix (default = "Entering "): Message prefix when entering a zone.

joinSuffix (default = "."): Message suffix when entering a zone.

leavePrefix (default = "Leaving "): Message prefix when leaving a zone.

leaveSuffix (default = "."): Message suffix when leaving a zone.

biomeJoinPrefix (default = "Entering a biome named "): Message prefix when entering a named biome.

biomeJoinSuffix (default = "."): Message suffix when entering a named biome.

biomeLeavePrefix (default = "Leaving a biome named "): Message prefix when leaving a named biome.

biomeLeaveSuffix (default = "."): Message suffix when leaving a named biome.

How It Works

The first three lines of the sign contain the zone name. The last line specifies "[NA]" (named areas) and the radius in blocks around the sign.

Sign example

Example: To create a "The Meadow" zone with a 30-block radius:

Zone example

When a player enters the zone radius, they will receive a message with the area name and configured prefix/suffix.

Entry notification

Instead of specifying a radius, you can create a named zone by biome by writing "[NA] biome" in the last line. This creates a named biome "Far Reaching Plains":

Biome zone

Message Display

Messages can be displayed in the graphical interface, in chat, or simultaneously in both places.

The same, but only with zone name:

Individual Colors for Signs!

Although the global RGB value for HUD messages is configured in settings, you can set individual colors for each sign. To do this, specify the color code in the format "[RGB] r, g, b" in the third line, sacrificing some space for the name.
