NovoAtlas
NovoAtlas is a powerful world generator for Minecraft that uses images as the foundation for creating unique landscapes. With this mod, you can create height maps and biome maps in a graphics editor, then import them into a datapack so Minecraft automatically fills in the remaining details of your world!
This project is based on the Atlas mod by itsmiir, distributed under the CC0 license and used with permission from the original author. NovoAtlas includes numerous improvements: updates for versions 1.21+, NeoForge support, enhanced structure-terrain blending, improved underwater cave generation, cave biome maps, and other minor refinements.

How to Use
To create your own worlds and dimensions using NovoAtlas, follow these steps:
-
Create Height Map: Prepare a grayscale PNG image that will serve as the height map. For creating such maps, it's recommended to use WorldPainter - specialized software for Minecraft map creation that allows exporting height maps. You can also find ready-made height maps of Earth on various specialized websites.
-
Create Biome Map: Create a copy of the height map and color it with any colors of your choice. Each color corresponds to a specific biome. It's important not to mix colors between each other. Save the image in PNG format with 8-bit RGBA encoding. For cave biomes, you can create separate maps for each "layer" of the world.
-
Create Datapack: Create a datapack and add the prepared images to it. You can use ready-made example datapacks or create your own from scratch.
Example datapacks are built into the mod, but they can also be downloaded separately.
Compatibility
NovoAtlas supports the use of custom biomes in created dimensions.
Important: This mod does not affect dimensions created without using the NovoAtlas generator. However, some world generation features used by other mods may not be fully compatible with NovoAtlas dimensions. By nature, NovoAtlas replaces the terrain formation and biome placement logic of the standard world generator with its own image-based logic. Most biome decorations (including structures, features, and surface rules) should work with NovoAtlas dimensions without problems, although some noise-based features, such as custom terrain and cave shapes, may not function.
Compatibility testing results with popular mods:
- Terrablender: NovoAtlas has a built-in patch to work with Terrablender surface rules, however biome placement features will be disabled.
- Lithostitched: Surface rule modifiers from Lithostitched work with NovoAtlas dimensions.
- Terralith: All features except some related to noise work with NovoAtlas dimensions.
- Tectonic: Most of this mod's features are related to noise and, as far as can be determined, do not work with NovoAtlas dimensions.
- Geophilic: All features work with NovoAtlas dimensions.
- Biomes O'Plenty: Biomes can be used in NovoAtlas dimensions and should generate correctly.
Support
If you encounter problems with the mod, you can join the Discord server and create a post in the appropriate help and support section.
Older Versions
The developer does not have time or capacity to develop new features or fix issues for older versions. Any backports of the mod will only be supported by the community.
