The Offhand Mod
About the Modification
The Offhand Mod is a reworked version of the dual-wielding mechanics from Mine & Blade Battlegear 2, introducing a permanent and fully functional secondary hand system into the game. It's important to note that the mod may be unstable in multiplayer mode. Although development considered online play, there may be undetected errors (please report them if found).
Note: Battlegear 2 is distributed under the GPLv3 license, which allows modification and distribution of changed versions but requires licensing this mod also under GPLv3.
Warning: Early beta version. Errors are possible. If detected, please report to the issue tracking system.
Main Changes
The control system has been completely reworked:
- Left click always activates the main hand action, right click - the offhand action. Actions include weapon attacks, bow shooting, food consumption, block placement and others.
- Pressing left/right mouse button together with the Alt key (configurable) allows inverting the action - for example, blocking with a sword or drawing a bow.
- These changes allow using any items in any hand without restrictions.
- The offhand has become completely independent from the main hand (this was the main problem of the original Battlegear).
- Added third-person swing animations.
- Implemented the ability to mine blocks with the offhand.
- Added the ability to use items/place blocks when the other hand is occupied with an active item.
- Removed all Battlegear2 restrictions on placing items in the main and offhand.
- Instead of two pairs of three slots, two pairs of four slots are now available.
- Implemented the ability to shoot two bows simultaneously (works only with vanilla bows).
- Using weapons in both hands now provides real gameplay advantage, similar to the system in Wildycraft (unlike the original Battlegear where two swords were practically useless).
- Changed the rendering of the quick access panel: instead of adding new elements, the mod now replaces the standard panel.
- Additional slots are now interchangeable with the standard quick access panel. As a consequence, the interface previously needed for placing items in the offhand has been removed.
- Battlegear items have been disabled, as a dual-wielding mod isn't expected to have additional weapons (but they can be re-enabled through configuration).
- Removed the dual-wielding disable function (as its disabling no longer provides gameplay advantages).
To understand if you like these changes, I recommend trying them in the game. Also open to improvement suggestions.
Future Plans
Reworking shield mechanics, adding compatibility with RPGStamina.
