OfflineLAN

OfflineLAN is a Fabric modification that gives you the ability to manage online-mode settings directly from the game client through a graphical interface. This option is typically only available in the server.properties file on dedicated servers.

Online-mode is a server-side setting that determines whether players need to authenticate with Mojang's servers before joining a world. When this option is enabled, players are required to verify their Minecraft accounts. If online-mode is disabled, the authentication process is skipped, which can be useful when using additional Minecraft clients configured for offline mode.

Key Features

  • Compatibility with vanilla clients - the mod only needs to be installed by the person opening the world for LAN play
  • No additional dependencies required - completely standalone solution
  • Updates for older versions - like other projects by the author, this mod will be supported for previous Minecraft versions

How to Use

Simply open your world for local network play through the standard "Open to LAN" menu, and you will see new configuration options. Be sure to review the important warnings below.

Important Information and Limitations

  • The online-mode toggle defaults to ON (same as in server.properties), so you need to deliberately turn it OFF for the mod's features to activate.
  • The mod only takes effect when opening the world for LAN - simply having the mod installed does not make your world vulnerable.
  • The functionality is identical to that on dedicated servers (provided port forwarding is configured or specialized solutions are used).
  • Warning: Disabling online-mode poses a potential security risk. It is recommended to always maintain world backups and implement additional protective measures.
  • With online-mode disabled, external player data is identified using locally generated UUIDs. This may result in players losing their progress if they previously connected with online-mode enabled. However, it is possible to migrate old player data to new UUID identifiers. This does not affect the game host, as their data is stored in level.dat and persists regardless of UUID.
