Onion Onion

In real life, chopping onions releases a compound called syn-propanethial-S-oxide into the air. This irritates the cells in human eyes through a series of acidic chemical reactions, resulting in the characteristic response—tears.

This mod adds the ability to slice onions into rings to achieve a similar effect in the game! The various consequences of chopping onions are detailed in the mod's settings.

Achievements

  • Cry Me a River: Make a Ghast shed a tear by chopping onions nearby.
  • Ninjas Cutting Onions Again...: While invisible, make at least ten creatures cry from chopping onions.

Configuration

You can modify the following parameters:

  • Does chopping onions affect the environment? (default: yes)
  • Does peeling large onion blocks from the Overweight Farming mod with an axe have the same effect as chopping onions? (default: yes)
  • Radius of effect on blocks and entities (default: 2, capped at 16 to prevent performance issues)
  • Does chopping onions deal damage to entities? (default: yes)
  • Chance to make a Ghast shed a tear (default: 0.5)
  • Chance to convert obsidian into crying obsidian (default: 0.25)
  • Chance for nearby weeping vines to grow (default: 0.75)

Tags

The mod adds two main tags:

  • onion_onion:unaffected_by_onions — a tag for entity types that do not react to onions being chopped nearby. By default, includes skeletons, bosses, and some other creatures.
  • onion_onion:onion_proof_helmets — entities wearing items from this tag on their head do not take onion-related damage. Includes items that cover the eyes, such as diving helmets from the Create mod.

There is also an additional item tag motley_mushrooms for mushrooms that should be included in the motley grill recipe. By default, includes compatibility with the Spelunkery mod.

Requires installation of Farmer's Delight and Blueprint mods (or Architectury for version 1.21).
