The Open Glider mod introduces a unique hang glider to Minecraft, opening up exciting opportunities for aerial travel and world exploration from a bird's-eye view.
Main Features
The glider offers smooth and realistic flight mechanics with intuitive controls. A distinctive feature of the mod is the wind system, which creates additional challenges during flight - players must constantly adjust their course to counter air currents.
The visual aspect is carefully crafted: when deploying the glider, the item's appearance changes, and the glider itself is displayed on the character's back in third-person mode and above the head in first-person mode. All these effects are synchronized between players on servers.
The mod is optimized to work on various computers and offers extensive configuration options. Players can adjust wind parameters, damage, flight distance, and visual effects through a convenient configuration menu right in the game.
Mod Features
Open Glider is the spiritual successor to the hang glider from the Open Blocks mod, but has been completely rewritten and improved for Minecraft versions 1.10 and above. The developers paid special attention to balance with vanilla elytra - the hang glider is positioned as an early-game alternative, offering a slower but more scenic way of traveling through the air.
To create the basic hang glider, you need to craft it according to the recipe shown above. After that, simply right-click on the item to deploy the glider - the activation indicator is the change in the item icon and the appearance of the visual model.
Note: Currently, the display of handlebars in first-person mode is temporarily disabled due to graphical errors, but this feature can be restored through settings.
During flight, holding the Shift key increases speed, but this reduces the overall gliding distance. Simply jump from a height - and embark on an unforgettable aerial journey!
Wind System
Unlike the maneuverable elytra, the hang glider has greater sail area and is susceptible to wind currents. Air flows can push the player off course, requiring constant trajectory correction.
Wind manifests in gusts and is distributed unevenly throughout the world - there are both calm zones and turbulent areas. Experienced pilots learn to predict the behavior of air masses and plan their route accordingly.
Wind strength is influenced by several factors:
- Flight speed (fast movement reduces the impact of side gusts)
- Weather conditions (wind increases significantly during storms)
- Altitude above ground (air currents are stronger at higher altitudes)
- Glider durability (damaged glider is more vulnerable to wind)
All these parameters can be customized according to your preference.
Durability and Repair
The hang glider gradually wears out with use. When durability is exhausted, the glider will need to be repaired on an anvil using leather, similar to elytra repair.
Advanced Hang Glider
For fans of aerial travel, an advanced version of the glider is available. Its crafting recipe includes elytra, creating an interesting gameplay choice between flight types. The advanced hang glider has increased speed, wind resistance, and durability.
Technical Features
The mod has open source code. Currently, there are some compatibility issues with shaders - first-person display may not work correctly, but this feature can be disabled in the settings.
