Open Loader

Open Loader is a utility mod that enables data packs and resource packs to be applied globally across all save files within a game instance. This is particularly useful for mod packs and servers where custom recipes and other features need to be defined for a wide range of modifications. It also allows for texture changes, tooltip overrides, and other game adjustments.

Data Packs

In Minecraft, data packs are used to load recipes, loot tables, functions, and other game mechanics. Many mods also rely on them for custom recipe systems and new features. Open Loader loads all data packs placed in the ~/config/openloader/data folder (prior to version 1.17, they were loaded from ~/openloader/data). Both archived and unpacked packs are supported.

Resource Packs

Resource packs contain textures, translations, sounds, and other client data. They can be used to replace existing resources or add entirely new ones. These packs are loaded from the ~/config/openloader/resources folder (prior to version 1.17, from ~/openloader/resources). Open Loader works with both archived and regular folders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the mod compatible with modifications like Patchouli or BotanyPots?

Yes, packs loaded through this mod function the same as those loaded via the game's standard systems. Anything that works through the usual resource pack folders or world data pack folders will work here as well.

My pack isn't loading. What should I do?

If a pack fails to load, it's likely due to incorrect instructions or an improperly configured pack. Ensure files are in the correct folder and that the pack contains a valid pack.mcmeta file. Unfortunately, we cannot assist with debugging custom packs, but numerous online guides and communities are available for help.

How does pack load order work?

Resource packs loaded by Open Loader are loaded after standard and modded packs. Data pack load order is handled per world and can be inconsistent. Initially, all data packs loaded by the mod are added after standard and modded packs. Any mods added after the initial world load will load after all previously loaded packs, but only for that world. This can be adjusted using Vanilla's data pack command to set the order per world. For more consistent load order control, tools like CraftTweaker are recommended as they are more robust than the data pack system.
