OpenComputers Rescaled

This mod represents a fork of OpenComputers, ported to the Scala 3 platform using Cleanroom. Initially conceived as an experiment in porting mods from Scala 2.11 to the new version, it became necessary to maintain a working version of OC for the 1.12.2 ecosystem following a recent announcement from the original OpenComputers developers - similar to what was done for the GTNH version in 1.7.10.

Important Note: When installing with loliasm, be sure to disable its BakedQuads Mixin as it's incompatible with the updated Mixin version used in the latest Cleanroom builds!

Differences from Original OpenComputers

  • Completely migrated to Scala 3.4.x with Java 21 support
  • Localization issues fixed using a different approach

Compatibility

Scala 3 mods can only be installed with other Scala 3 mods. Currently experiencing incompatibility with Project Red, AE2 Stuff, and SoulKeeper2.

Java-based addons should work correctly.

What Original OpenComputers Offers

These computers can be programmed in Lua versions 5.2 and 5.3. They persist state across gaming sessions (code execution resumes from where the computer was saved) and feature modular architecture (including graphics cards, network cards, redstone cards, and other components). If you have a compatible energy generation mod installed, computers will require power to operate - though like most mod settings, this can be changed via configuration.

OpenComputers integrates well with survival gameplay and performs best when combined with other mods that automate ore processing and ideally some crafting processes! Computers aren't cheap to craft, so don't expect to build your first computer early in a new game. For an added challenge, try enabling hard mode recipes (details in the .minecraft/config/opencomputers/user.recipes file).

The mod includes numerous components to expand computer functionality: motion sensors, holograms, and even robots.

Interaction with other mods is facilitated through the Adapter block (for example, retrieving energy information from power cells and much more).

Cleanroom FAQ

Q: What is Cleanroom?

A: Cleanroom is a Forge 1.12.2 fork that provides modern toolchains, new APIs, and 99% compatibility. The project aims to maintain relevance for version 1.12.2 using cutting-edge technology while expanding Forge and vanilla capabilities to avoid compatibility issues with newer versions.

Q: How to install Cleanroom?

A: Follow the instructions in the project repository's README.

Q: Can I include this mod in my Forge modpack? Will it break my setup?

A: Yes, it's safe! The mod won't load or cause crashes in the Forge environment.

Q: What Java version is required?

A: Java 21 or 22. The plan is to support development and operation on the latest LTS Java version.

Q: What's the current project status?

A: Cleanroom has reached functional status - smaller packs like Tekkit 2 work out-of-the-box with Fugue, while larger projects such as e2ee and Mystics Monstrosity require minor adjustments. However, we're short on contributors - join the Discord if you'd like to help with project development.

Note: Mod files are labeled as "Forge" since CurseForge doesn't yet support Cleanroom directly.
