Graves

For this mod to work, the game rule keepInventory must be set to true, and doImmediateRespawn must be set to false.

When a player dies, a grave appears at the death site, securely storing all their items and accumulated experience. To retrieve the grave's contents, simply click on it with the left or right mouse button. This datapack works perfectly in multiplayer mode and offers numerous configuration options: you can adjust grave disappearance time, determine which items will drop, and much more!

Now when a player dies, they lose all accumulated experience without limitations. For example, if a character dies at level 30, they will lose all 13 levels of experience instead of the previous 7.

Configuration Settings

To open the settings menu, execute the command /function m_graves:settings/open — an interactive interface will appear.

Main Parameters

Automatic Disappearance: Graves can automatically disappear after a specified time, dropping all their contents. Unlike regular items, the timer continues even if the grave is not loaded in the world. (Disabled by default, time — 10 minutes)

Void Recovery: If a player dies in the void or above it, their grave will appear on the nearest solid block within the specified radius.

Locked Graves: Graves can only be accessed by their owner. (Disabled by default)

Keys: After death, the player receives a key that other participants can use to open their grave. The key disappears after use. (Disabled by default)

Auto Unlock: Locked graves automatically unlock after a certain time. (Disabled by default, time — 5 minutes)

Death Coordinates Display: After death, the player sees the coordinates and dimension of their death in the chat. (Disabled by default)

Death Locator Compass: The player receives a compass that points to their death location. If the key function is enabled, the compass also serves as a key. (Disabled by default)

Appearance

Glowing Graves: Graves are visible through walls. (disabled by default)

Player Name Display: The grave shows the owner's name. (enabled by default)

Player Head Display: The grave is adorned with the deceased's head. (enabled by default)

Grave Decorations: Graves have random vegetation. (enabled by default)

Inventory Settings

Experience Preservation: Experience is not lost upon death. (disabled by default)

Hotbar Preservation: Items in hotbar slots remain upon death (disabled by default).

Armor Preservation: Equipped armor is not lost (disabled by default).

Preservation of Some Items: Certain items do not drop upon death (disabled by default). The default list includes weapons, armor, tools, and equipment, but it can be modified in m_graves/tags/items/kept_items.

Loss of Some Items: Some items are permanently lost upon death (disabled by default). The list is initially empty but can be configured in m_graves/tags/items/lost_items.

For convenience in editing the lists of preserved and lost items, built-in tags have been added:

  • #m_graves:equipment — weapons, armor, tools, and equipment
  • #m_graves:mob_drops — mob drops
  • #m_graves:rare_items — rare items with colored text without enchantments (Nether Stars, Dragon Egg, etc.)
  • #m_graves:resources — mined resources (coal, iron, diamonds, netherite, etc.)
  • #m_graves:smithing_templates — all smithing templates

Grave Placement

When a grave appears, it moves to the nearest solid surface beneath it to avoid floating in the air. If a player dies inside a solid block, the system will check adjacent empty blocks to place the grave. If death occurs in stationary lava, the grave will appear on its surface.
