About Version 1.18

Minecraft 1.18.2 is now available! All issues related to natural creature spawning should be reported to the Prehistoric Spawns issue tracker, not to the Fossils & Archeology developers.

After the previous update, the F&A team changed their policy regarding addons. Although they didn't give a specific response about Prehistoric Spawns, this mod complies with their updated guidelines, as confirmed by community representatives. In connection with this, I decided to resume mod development. A Fabric version is planned, but since this is not my primary modding platform, exact release dates are currently unknown.

To understand the JSON-based spawning system, refer to the spawn configuration guide on the Prehistoric Spawns wiki.

A Tyrannosaurus lurks on a ridge with the text "You are no longer the top of the food chain..."

Prehistoric Spawns is an addon for the Fossils & Archeology Revival mod that allows dinosaurs to spawn naturally in the world. Now you too can be chased by ferocious prehistoric predators who see you as a new delicacy on their menu. Many mobs from Fossils and Archeology can be quite aggressive when hungry, so you'll need to be careful. While some herbivores might leave you alone, most carnivores are more likely to be looking for a snack!

What This Mod Does (and What It DOESN'T Do)

Prehistoric Spawns adds natural spawning for creatures from the Fossils and Archeology Revival mod, which would otherwise have to be revived from fossils like in Jurassic Park. The mod does NOT add its own entities or modified biomes to Minecraft. All mobs from the Fossils and Archeology mod were created by the F&A team, not by me. I only created a function that allows them to spawn like Minecraft's normal passive animals (pigs, sheep, etc.).

What's New in Version 3.0?

Prehistoric Spawns now uses CorviCraft Spawn Utility as the basis for its JSON files. This provides an improved user experience compared to the previous version of the JSON system. It fully supports modified entries and, if the game is launched for the first time with BOP/BYG installed, automatically generates entries for their biomes. This can also be done manually by clearing the Prehistoric Spawns configuration folder.

For more information about the JSON system and how to use it, check out the Prehistoric Spawns wiki.

What Happened to Versions Before 2.1?

Versions before 2.0 were extremely inconvenient since I was just learning to program at that time. And version 2.0 itself had a minor bug. However, if you're determined to get an old version, they're still available on the mod's Curseforge page.

Important! The Prehistoric Spawns 1.12 Version is NOT Compatible with Custom Mob Spawner(/Mo'Creatures).

Technically the game won't crash, but CMS causes several problems with Prehistoric Spawns' spawning system. It's very likely that controlling spawn rates won't work correctly, and other issues may occur. Support is not provided for packs that include both Custom Mob Spawners and Prehistoric Spawns - use at your own risk!

Will There Be a 1.19/1.20 Version?

No. I currently work with version 1.18, so there are no plans to support version 1.19+.

Promotional screenshots were taken using Oh the Biomes You'll Go (1.18) / Biomes O'Plenty (1.12) and Complementary Shaders. The featured dinosaurs are, of course, from Fossils & Archeology Revival!
