🌤️ Project Atmosphere

Dynamic Weather & Climate Engine for Forge 1.20.1 (IN ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT — Beta Release)

Project Atmosphere is a comprehensive weather and climate simulation system for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1. The mod completely replaces standard weather with an integrated system including:

  • 🌡️ Temperature indicators
  • 💧 Humidity levels
  • 🌀 Atmospheric pressure
  • 🌫️ Visual atmospheric effects

Built from scratch for optimal performance and compatibility with other mods, it implements realistic weather based on biomes and supports shader blending, Simple Clouds, as well as mods Serene Seasons Extended and Pretty Rain.

🌦️ Core Features

☁️ Dynamic Cloud System (via Simple Clouds)

  • Full integration with Simple Clouds
  • Cloud behavior responds to temperature, humidity, and pressure
  • Various cloud types for each biome and weather conditions
  • Support for manual injection, forecast-based generation, and persistent clouds
  • Planned: fog-cloud merging and visualization through shaders

🌡️ Realistic Temperature System

  • Account for biomes and seasonal changes
  • Native integration with Serene Seasons and Serene Seasons Extended
  • Temperature recalculation every 50 ticks (10 in-game minutes)
  • Sinusoidal daily curves with pre-calculated minimums and maximums
  • Realistic features:
    • Daily fluctuations in deserts
    • Stable cold in frozen biomes
    • Moderate conditions in tropics
  • Asynchronous data generation

🌫️ Humidity and Pressure Systems

  • Humidity varies depending on biome, time, and temperature
  • Pressure tracked by biomes and affects:
    • 🌥️ Cloud formation
    • 🌩️ Storm probability
    • 🌁 Fog density
  • These values influence rain, fog intensity, and cloud formation

📊 Forecasting System

  • Pre-calculation of 7-day forecast for each biome:
    • Temperature (min/max)
    • Humidity
    • Pressure
    • Wind
    • Storm probability
  • Forecasts saved in JSON and loaded asynchronously
  • Used by cloud and fog systems to simulate changing weather

🌪️ Weather Variability Modules

🔥 Anomaly Manager

  • Simulates heatwaves, cold snaps, and pressure anomalies
  • Configurable for biome groups

🌈 Variation Generator

  • Adds natural daily fluctuations
  • Prevents repetitive weather while respecting seasonal logic

🌁 Visual and Atmospheric Effects

  • Fog changes based on:
    • Temperature vs dew point difference
    • Humidity level
    • Biome and time of day
  • Future plans:
    • Fog density through shaders (e.g., Complementary or Iris)
    • Cloud-fog blending

🔁 Compatibility and Integration

✅ Supported Mods

  • Serene Seasons
  • Simple Clouds
  • Pretty Rain
  • Serene Seasons Extended

🔜 Planned Support

  • Farmer's Delight (crop hydration/weather)
  • Create (machine overheating & freezing)
  • Tough As Nails (temperature)
  • Legendary Survival Overhaul

🧱 Architecture and Performance

  • Asynchronous design: all forecasts, interpolation, and storage run off-thread
  • Uses chunk-aware managers for biome effects
  • Zero tick impact: designed for multiplayer performance
  • Modular core for easy third-party mod integration

🔧 Developer Tools

  • Commands /weatherdebug and /forecast:
    • View forecast by biomes
    • Force weather conditions
    • Debug cloud generation state
  • Public API (planned — contact for early access)

🗺️ Current and Future Modules

✅ Implemented

  • 🌬️ Wind simulation — affects cloud movement, particles, and (future) projectile drift
  • ❄️ Snow accumulation
    • Based on real temperature, not just tags
    • Snow melts with sun/heat/rain
    • Per-block, terrain-blending behavior

🔜 Coming Soon

  • 🌾 Crop health — affected by drought, overwatering, or extreme heat
  • 🧊 Freezing logic — temperature-based effects on items, blocks, fluids, entities
  • ☔ Rain quality system — soil saturation, evaporation, and rainfall depth

⚙️ Requirements

  • Minecraft Forge 1.20.1
  • Serene Seasons
  • Simple Clouds
  • Pretty Rain
  • Serene Seasons Extended Fix

⚡ Performance Requirements

Project Atmosphere requires significant CPU and GPU resources due to simulation and rendering systems.

  • Recommended minimum requirement — RTX-class graphics cards for smooth mod operation.
  • Current testing conducted on RTX 4070 Ti SUPER (main reference) and RTX 2060 (low-end reference).
  • For processors, testing conducted on Ryzen 5 3600X as lower performance threshold.
  • Below RTX 2060 for GPU or R5 3600X for CPU, acceptable mod performance levels are not guaranteed.

⚠️ Important Information

Project Atmosphere is in BETA testing stage. Some features may be incomplete or unstable. Use at your own risk, especially on production servers. Report bugs through Discord — feedback is welcome and helps in development.

💬 Additional Notes

Project Atmosphere aims to become the foundation of climate simulation for realism-focused modpacks. Whether you're looking for immersive visualization, dynamic weather systems, or interaction with crops and machinery, this mod provides modular, asynchronous, and server-safe infrastructure.
