Three Unique Factions
Villagers
A desperate alliance of villagers and illagers who have joined forces to protect their home from invaders. Villager ingenuity combined with illager military organization creates a formidable army of warriors and spellcasters supported by farmers, builders, and craftsmen. Transform the humble village into an impregnable fortress!
Monsters
Previously wild and untamed creatures of the Overworld, brought together by mysterious forces. Raise the dead from graveyards, hatch spiders from nests, and much more. Monsters avoid sunlight and can only move safely at night, but when darkness falls, they become as fearsome as they've always been.
Piglins
Inhabitants of the Nether who have come through portals to expand their empire. Piglins can only build on Nether terrain, but wherever they expand, the Overworld transforms into a likeness of their home: grass becomes nylium, and stone becomes netherrack. Conquer the Overworld and let no one stand in your way!
Game Modes
Change game modes by right-clicking the button in the top right corner:
- 🏛️ Classic: Classic RTS experience in free-for-all or team mode. Destroy all enemy buildings to win.
- 🏕️ Wave Survival: Survive brutal waves of enemies each night, solo or with allies.
- 💠 King of the Beacon: Fight for control of a central Beacon. Unlock powerful auras and defend it to win.
- 🏗️ Sandbox: Create custom maps by freely placing units and buildings
Tutorial
If you're new to the RTS genre, start by completing the single-player tutorial. The reign_of_nether_tutorial map included in the downloads will introduce you to the basics of real-time strategy gaming and all the fundamental mechanics of the mod.
Starting a Game
To begin a match, press F12 to switch to RTS camera and use the buttons in the top right corner to place your starting workers.
Use /rts-help for a list of commands and controls
Installation
- Install Forge 1.20.1
- Download and add the Reign of Nether mod file to your Minecraft mods folder
- Launch Minecraft, selecting Forge 1.20.1 installation
When installing on a server, it's recommended to use these server.properties settings:
- view-distance=25
- spawn-monsters=false
- spawn-npcs=false
- spawn-protection=0
- gamemode=spectator
For mod versions 1.1.3 and below, use Forge 1.19.2 instead
Experimental: Fog of War
Using the command /rts-fog enable/disable, you can enable or disable fog of war for all players on the server. This means that all chunks beyond the immediate range of your units and buildings are darkened, and all mobs and block updates are not visible until you explore them. This is a classic feature of RTS games, but this mod has experienced bugs and performance issues related to it, so it's labeled as experimental.
Tips for improving performance:
- Optifine is not compatible! Enabling it with Optifine installed will crash the game
- Don't enable or disable fog of war in the middle of a match
- Reduce your chunk render distance
